This role offers the opportunity to shape complex projects from concept to commissioning—blending design, collaboration, and hands-on impact to deliver meaningful results in a sustainable future. We are seeking a talented project engineer to join the team in Dickerson, Maryland. This position will be a long-term position with an anticipated duration of at least 3-5 years. 

Responsibilities

This position will support engineering in the design, specification, procurement and installation of materials handling equipment used in the processing of ash from a modern Waste-to-Energy facility. Essential Functions include developing and specifying materials handling and processing equipment and system design/scope documents including:

Design & Feasibility Analysis: Determine feasibility of designing new or modifying existing facilities considering costs, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors. Provide support in the evaluation, selection, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications

System Design & Analysis: Prepare system layout, drawings, and schematics. Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications. Compare final design for compliance with contract documents

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other engineering competency areas to ensure project success

Vendor & Contractor Coordination: Coordinate with equipment suppliers, engineering subcontractors and installation contractors

Commissioning & Implementation Support: Support new equipment commissioning including providing on-site consulting/overview of equipment installation and startup & testing

Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related from an accredited Institution5-10 years of experience in material handling equipment in compatible industriesStrong Preference for familiarity with Material Handling Applications within Industrial Facilities in industries such as Power, Mining, Chemical, Pulp & Paper, Aggregate, Metal Recycling, and Waste-to-Energy including:Magnet and Eddy Current Separators for metal recoveryConveyors, all types (Belt, vibrating, drag, screw, bucket, pneumatic, etc.)Shredding, screening and trommel technologiesProcess controls, electrical and structural designsBulk handling, cleaning, storage, loading and unloading systemsMobile and transport equipmentMotivated self-starter with ability to work on multiple concurrent projects with minimal supervisionWillingness to travel a minimum of 25%Strong technical writing and oral communication skills

Proficiency with:

Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)Microsoft Projects and VisioAutoCADPeopleSoft or SAP enterprise systems a plus

 

Salary Range Information

The range increases based on role, level and location ($117,000 - $155,000 per year).

Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
