Project Engineer

JOB SUMMARY\n

The Project Engineer provides professional engineering and administrative services in connection with the design and construction of all water, sewer, streets and drainage projects within the City of Conroe's Engineering Department.\n

QUALIFICATIONS\n

Education and Experience:\n

Bachelor's degree in engineering and four years related experience with a municipality, public entity or a consulting civil engineering firm preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer experience utilizing Civil Engineering programs for the design of water, sewer, storm sewer, drainage channels, streets, parks and other public works projects and two years of experience preparing plans with AutoCAD Program and experience with FEMA, National Flood Insurance Program and Code of Federal Regulations experience preferred.\n

Special Requirements:\n

Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas; or ability to obtain a professional engineering license from the Texas Board of Professional Engineers within six months of the date of hire. Possession of a valid class \"C\" Texas driver's license required. \n

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: \n\nKnowledge and experience of modern methods and techniques used in the design, construction and inspection of public works projects. \nKnowledge of laws and regulatory codes applicable to design and construction of public works projects and acquisitions of right-of-way.\nAbility to organize, plan and keep up with work schedules and employee assignments.\nAbility to plan, direct and supervise the work of subordinate professionals and technical staff, including surveyors and draftsmen.\nAbility to field investigate projects to assure proper and feasible design of public works projects.\nAbility to visit sites and give engineering advice to city contractors or city departments.\nAbility to recognize the importance of projects and prepare studies based on field conditions and economic alternatives.\nAbility to design all types of public works projects with a high level of expertise in water projects, sewer projects, roadway, parks and drainage.\nAbility to prepare and review engineering plans.\nAbility to review contractor\/city staff progress of construction.\nAbility to design and supervise the construction inspection of complex public works projects.\nAbility to communicate effectively, orally and in writing and to make effective presentations to various groups and assemblies.\nAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.\nAbility to perform surveying calculations, construction surveys and field staking using modern surveying equipment such as total station and their related computer programs.\n\n

PHYSICAL DEMANDS\n

The work is light and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and\/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: hearing, mental acuity, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity and walking.
