South32’s corporate office is based in the heart of Perth’s CBD. The corporate office houses key functions including HR, Finance, External Affairs, Sustainability Strategy, Corporate Development, Investor Relations, Group Risk, Legal and Technical. Our office is conveniently located a 5-minute walk from the Perth Underground Train Station.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

 

This is a full-time, permanent position at our head office in Perth.

 

The Project Engineer will join our Major Projects Studies Team to drive transformative industrial developments. You'll lead Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility studies while collaborating with internal teams, external consultants, and contractors. Assist with implementing Safety in Design principles throughout project lifecycles and serve as a crucial link between Studies, Execution, and Operations teams.

 

Reporting to the Study Manager, key accountabilities include: 

 

Support multiple Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility studies simultaneously, while helping prepare comprehensive documentation that brings projects from concept to reality. You'll work closely with our Study Manager to contribute to solutions that make a real difference to our operations. Collaborate with a diverse network of stakeholders, from site operations teams to specialized engineers and external partners. Your role will be valuable in supporting seamless communication to help deliver innovative engineering solutions that meet our project goals. Apply technical expertise by contributing to engineering specifications, participating in design reviews, and ensuring deliverables align with South32's quality standards. You'll be part of safety-focused design activities, from HAZOP studies to risk assessments, supporting our commitment to both innovation and safety. Contribute to continuous improvement through proactive problem-solving and knowledge sharing, while supporting change management initiatives and helping capture valuable lessons learned.

 

ABOUT YOU 

 

You will ideally have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

 

Apply your industry experience to capital and maintenance projects, in alumina and extractive processes, from developing detailed specifications, through to supporting on-site execution and commissioning. Analytical mindset and methodical thinking to solve complex industrial challenges, utilising your proficiency in digital tools including SharePoint and the Microsoft Office suite. Contribute your understanding of engineering methods and quality systems, including AS/NZS standards, while participating in safety initiatives through risk assessments and HAZOP/HAZAN activities Demonstrate your team-oriented approach and delivery focus, working collaboratively across departments to build strong professional relationships and achieve project outcomes Minimum of 5 years’ experience in engineering projects, with demonstrated capability in change management and operations within complex industrial processes Experience in preparing comprehensive project scopes, budgets, schedules, and plans, supported by practical exposure to operating facilities, mines, or other major industrial undertakings

 

Qualifications for this position are: 

Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Geoscience, Mining, Chemical/Metallurgy Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical and electrical) Ideally registered, eligible for or working towards engineering registration Drivers Licence – C Class
