What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: The Ravenswood casthouse is currently undergoing a multi-stage expansion to implement a Casting Future State (CFS) vision. The primary project is the replacement of the three oldest aluminum direct chill (DC) casting complexes with two new state-of-the-art casting complexes. This project has also been selected for a Department of Energy (DOE) award with additional environmental and community objectives. A dedicated project core team has been assembled to manage this project including a Project Manager, Mechanical Lead Engineer, and Electrical Lead Engineer.
The management of this project includes close coordination between onsite and corporate business and technical groups, multiple 3rd party engineering and construction firms, as well as with the DOE and local community. The project is entering the detailed engineering phase which is anticipated to engage more than five separate engineering firms to execute detailed engineering on over 10 significant overlapping engineering packages.
The CFS Assistant Manager will, under the direction of the CFS Project Manager and with the support of the project core team, manage assigned engineering firms and packages ensuring that the deliverables are seamlessly integrated into a single design with defined construction requirements, costs, and timelines prior to the project execution phase. The CFS assistant manager will also be responsible for supporting overall project administration and DOE deliverables, with support from the core team, under the direction of the CFS Project Manager.

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Manage assigned engineering contracts ensuring compliance with plant, corporate, CFS and DOE objectives, requirements, and standards in terms of EHS, quality, cost, and schedule.

Coordination between assigned project contracts with contracts led by other team members to ensure consistency and integration.

Technical review of submitted engineering deliverables for accuracy, completeness, appropriateness, and alignment with industry best practice

Development of project documentation including specifications, assessments, and reports

Assist CFS project manager with project team oversight, administration, and coaching

Ideal Background

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited university is required.

Registration: Professional Engineering and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) registration is highly preferred.

Experience: This position requires 5+ years of relevant experience in engineering and project management.  

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to lead and work collaboratively within a multi-national hybrid team environment, required

Demonstrated knowledge of vertical, direct-chill casting equipment and processes, preferred

Effective communication (both written and verbal) with the ability to adapt communication styles to different audiences, required

Effective time management with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, required

Professional writing experience, preferred

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
