About the Role:
Experienced Project Engineer for the delivery of a Water Mains replacement project in Newcastle, NSW. This is an onsite role, offering direct hands-on experience to contribute to the success of the project.
Permanent, Monday to Friday local role
As a skilled and proactive Project Engineer, you will support the successful execution of projects by overseeing and coordinating various engineering activities. Your responsibilities will include managing the design, procurement, installation, and testing phases while ensuring timely and cost-effective project completion in alignment with contractual commitments to the client.
The ideal candidate should possess experience or exposure to civil works in the water/gas industry to ensure adherence to client expectations, company objectives and contractual obligations.
Works will include:
Design and construct a 6.2km DN630 HDPE watermain, including integration with existing water infrastructure at two connection points. Oversee HDPE pipe installation, PRV installation, and placement of ancillaries such as scours, air valves, and hydrants, followed by site restoration. Utilize a combination of open trenching (in both open paddocks and roadways) and trenchless construction along designated sections of the alignment.Key Responsibilities:
Ensure cost-effective construction methodologies and identify improvement areas. Track project finances, review costs vs. budget, and highlight margin impacts. Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and teams to resolve technical, commercial, and scheduling issues. Understand project scope and identify contractual risks and opportunities. Prepare variations, claims, and subcontract agreements. Plan procurement activities, organise labour and equipment for supervisors. Ensure materials and services meet QA requirements. Develop ITPs/ITCs, monitor quality plans, and ensure compliance. Assess risks, implement hazard controls, and support incident investigations. Promote a strong safety culture through pre-starts and toolbox talks. Review CEMP, control drawings, and environmental procedures before work begins. Maintain QA documentation, manage project closeout, and finalize defect claims.Qualifications & Experience:
Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical will also be considered Formal Project Management accreditation equivalent to Australian Institute Project Management, Diploma, PMP or equivalent. 5+ years Project Management experience in the Construction Industry (Civil, Utilities and Water Infrastructure projects highly desirable). Sound project management skills including ability to understand and interpret project scope, objectives and constraints. Ability to communicate and liaise effectively with people at all levels, and other stakeholders as required. Sound skills in using Microsoft Office software and other relevant computer applications.About Us:
