Overview TRC creates and implements sophisticated and innovative solutions to the challenges facing North America’s energy markets and infrastructure. A national energy and environmental services organization, TRC provides its services to major industries, utilities, banks, insurance companies and federal, state, and local government agencies. TRC is seeking a qualified individual to support energy efficiency projects for commercial buildings. Projects and responsibilities may include performing engineering calculations for energy efficiency measures, peer review of calculations, building energy simulation models, performing research for technical and financial analysis for new and existing energy efficiency measures. Candidates must possess strong technical capabilities including knowledge of building systems, energy efficiency, knowledge of energy-related codes and standards. The desired candidate will work collaboratively with program staff and clients to promote energy efficiency and green building projects. The candidate will be presented with a diverse range of projects found in commercial energy systems. This position requires flexibility; diversity of technical expertise; strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; and excellent customer care skills. Responsibilities Key responsibilities include: • Leading weekly calls with the client staff and addressing their concerns. • Leading to ensure client deadlines are met on or before deadlines. • Perform and or review energy savings analyses for energy efficiency measures and perform secondary research to find information on energy savings and cost estimates. • Plan for timely delivery of draft documents and work with the team to ensure delivery per the plan. • Present energy savings calculations to the client and discuss technical details. • Keep managers and teammates aware of project schedules and progress and provide regular time charging/budget updates as necessary. • A drive to find new energy savings approaches and improve existing processes. • Assist in the development of energy calculators and tools for estimating energy savings. • Stay informed about energy issues and industry trends. • Candidate may conduct a limited amount of site visits to verify installation and operation of baseline and replacement energy-using equipment. Qualifications Minimum Requirements: • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent • Minimum 5-7 years of engineering experience within the energy efficiency, green building, building science, or related fields. • Experience with commercial HVAC systems, central heating and cooling systems/plants, refrigeration systems, building envelope, and other energy systems in commercial buildings • Demonstrated experience in training other engineers and/or reviewing their technical work for quality control. • Demonstrated experience in leading calls with engineers and managers on client’s team and addressing their questions/concerns. • Demonstrated experience in performing engineering calculations for energy efficiency measures and performing peer review of simple and complex calculations. • Demonstrated analytical, project prioritization, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, time management, and organizational skills • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and • Demonstrated ability to work to towards the goals of the team and ability to work and adapt in a fast-paced environment Preferred Experience: • Leading calls with client staff and performing QC on work of internal engineering staff. • Performing engineering calculations to support an energy efficiency program. • Experience with collecting and verifying assumptions used for energy savings calculations from credible sources and collecting equipment cost estimates from the Web and from contractors. • Writing technical memos, reports, and workpapers and presenting them to both technical and non-technical audience • Submitting high-quality deliverables within deadlines while accounting for necessary quality control activities. • Experience using building energy modeling software such as EnergyPlus, Trane TRACE, eQuest. • Performing ASHARE level II energy audits of commercial facilities and/or Retrocommissioning. • Proficiency in using advanced functions/tools in spreadsheets. • Experience in other aspects of the energy industry, such as distributed energy generation, demand response and project economics. • Well-developed presentation/public speaking skills. • CEM, EIT, or LEED AP accreditation Benefits*: TRC offers a competitive benefit package consisting of: Medical, dental, vision, and disability insurance. 401k package that includes both traditional and Roth IRA options and Company match. Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors. Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
