Frontier-Kemper-Tutor Perini joint venture was awarded the Manhattan Tunnel Project, part of the Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP). A $1.18 billion design-build contract from the Gateway Development Commission for the HTP which aims to enhance rail resiliency by adding two new tracks between New York and New Jersey and rehabilitating the storm-damaged North River Tunnel. The project includes designing and constructing twin 30-foot diameter, 700-foot-long tunnels under the Hudson River, connecting to existing tunnels beneath Hudson Yards, and an access shaft at 12th Avenue, later serving as a ventilation facility.

DESCRIPTION:

As a Project Engineer at Frontier-Kemper, reporting to the Project Manager, you will have the opportunity to:

Review project plans and develop a construction schedule in coordination with project-wide activities.

Coordinate with subcontractors on advanced material acquisitions and pre-construction deliverables

Manages the field engineering staff and survey team.

Coordinates with contracts/subcontracts manager and FKCI Home Office Engineering.

Assures the project design and temporary works requirements are carried out in an organized and professional manner.

Assures the submittals and engineering requirements are developed and executed in time and in support of the project schedule. 

Assures the engineering requirements are in synch with safety and quality requirements of the project.

Develop and assist with obtaining quotes and draft contracts to meet project requirements.

Prepare construction work plan packages and coordinate pre-construction meetings while ensuring that all prerequisites to start construction activities are identified and completed.

Prepare, update, and distribute work activity schedules/updates, and communicates across discipline groups and agencies to ensure proper advance notifications and coordination of start times.

Monitor and participates daily in field construction process. Provides layout checks and technical reviews of work against requirements.

Obtain confirmations from design engineers as needed.

Assist with subcontract administration and permanent material suppliers through monitoring of correspondence, submittals, RFI's, and performance records; Maintains accurate payment records.

Assist in preparing monthly reporting for progress payments, schedule updates, and problem/issue tracking and resolution. Provides accurate and factual assessments of project performance.

Participate in change orders and claims management

Identify and resolves changing site conditions or other impacts during planning of the work

Develop quality checks and coordinate permits from appropriate entities

Manage and submit project close-out in coordination with the client and third parties

 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

10 or more years of underground construction experience on tunneling, mining, or heavy civil projects

Knowledge of construction safety and current federal & OSHA Requirements.

Project controls techniques (i.e. cost accounting, basic estimating, forecasting, and contracts)

A strong working knowledge of the critical path method and resource scheduling.

Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and Primavera P6.

Experience with Procore and Kahua is a HUGE PLUS

Strong organizational and time management skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.

Strong work ethic - Highly motivated and willing to do what it takes to get the job done right.

The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

***Expected salary range for this position is $190,000 – $230,000 depending upon experience***
