JOB DESCRIPTION

The Airtec Division of Atlas Copco Compressor Technique wants to recruit a project engineer to further expand its capacity regarding active magnetic bearings, a key technology for Atlas Copco’s range of direct-drive turbo compressors. Due to their very high energy efficiency and maintenance-free operation, these compressors constitute a disruptive technology that significantly contributes to Atlas Copco’s long-term climate and business ambitions.

The magnetic bearing team offers unique development opportunities to young graduates:

The team masters all aspects of active magnetic bearing design, with a project portfolio that is a balanced mix of long-term, high-risk research projects and short-term product development projects. The team interacts strongly with the production line in Wilrijk and with the worldwide Atlas Copco field support, implying exposure to every aspect of an industrial product’s life cycle. The team is supported by a well-developed network of internal and external consultants and a strong lab team with extensive experimental facilities. The team is setting up a smart and integrated quality system that correlates big data collected during manufacture with big data collected in the field through Atlas Copco’s Smartlink system.

Within this stimulating environment, the project engineer’s role will be a mix of different tasks:

Technical support to solve production, lab and field issues; • Project management: support of test rig design, assembly and test;Experimental work: carrying out tests and interpreting measurements; • Process work: streamlining our operations by automating repetitive tasks, organizing training, ...;Big data related work: support for the team’s efforts regarding the integrated quality system.

This mix of tasks provides an ideal framework to develop a set of skills and knowledge that will allow the project engineer to grow into either a project leadership or technology leadership role.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

The project engineer is a Master of Engineering (mechatronics, aerospace, mechanical, electrical, energy, space studies, ....).

Although active magnetic bearing systems are advanced mechatronic systems, we require no specific prior knowledge. All training will be carried out either on the job or through dedicated internal or external training seminars.

The project engineer is passionate about mechatronics and has a strong interest in doing experimental and analytical work in a multidisciplinary environment. He/she prefers a hands-on approach and does not only like troubleshooting but also likes converting the troubleshooting experience into systematic product or process improvements.

The project engineer should subscribe to the team’s core values:

you are willing to learn from feedback and continuously improve;you are committed to deliver and don’t give up when it gets tough;you are a positive thinker – you have a “can-do” mentality toward challenging assignments;you are respectful toward all of our stakeholders (production operators, engineers, lab and field technicians, internal and external customers).

Diverse by nature and inclusive by choice
Bright ideas come from all of us. The more unique perspectives we embrace, the more innovative we are. Together we build a culture where difference is valued and we share a deep sense of purpose and belonging.
