Job Description

The Water Business Unit of AECOM is actively seeking a proactive Project Geotechnical Engineer.  This position is located in our Virginia Beach, VA office. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

Performing and managing small to medium-sized geotechnical projects and working closely with other disciplines to meet the project needs under the supervision of senior engineersMentoring younger engineersPlanning and oversight of subsurface investigation programs.Adhere to AECOM safety culture and maintain a safe work environmentAssigning, reviewing, and performing statistical analysis on the results of the geotechnical laboratory testingPerforming and reviewing design calculations for pavements, shallow and deep foundations, tunnel components, retaining walls, temporary and permanent support of excavationPerform and peer review settlement analyses, ground improvement analyses, slope stability analyses, seepage analyses,Working with the geophysics group to manage combined subsurface exploration programsPrepare engineering reports and memorandaWorking in multidisciplinary teams of engineers and scientists with effective collaboration.Performing construction oversightReviewing design reports and calculations performed by other firms and providing detailed review comments.Reviewing construction submittals and providing detailed review comments.Finding opportunities to bring innovation to the operations using data science, data analytics, and artificial intelligence.Participating in local professional events to represent AECOMTravel for projects domestically and internationally for one week to a month at a time.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

BA/BS Degree in Civil Engineering + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or educationExperience with pavement design, shallow and deep foundations, slope stabilityExperience with AutoCAD, gINT, MathCAD, Geostudio, and other geotechnical analysis softwareA minimum of 2 years of demonstrated professional experience in the field and office.Ability to travel domestically and internationally for 2 to 4 weeks at a time.P.E. CertificationAbility to work in inclement weatherAbility to lift 50 lbsDue to the nature of work, US Citizenship is requiredValid U.S. Driver's license and as a condition of employment, able to pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records Review.)

Preferred Requirements:

Knowledge of geology within the tidewater area of VirginiaThorough understanding of the concepts of soil mechanics and foundation engineeringPrior experience working on projects for the US Army Crops of Engineers, NAVFAC.Experience in monitoring general geotechnical constructionPossess active or ability to obtain a security clearanceDemonstrated hands-on experience in conducting large-scale subsurface investigations using various drilling methodologies.Experience with geotechnical laboratory testing.Experience with installation and monitoring of instrumentation Experience with technical report writingStrong written and oral communication, quantitative and interpersonal skill
