MITRE’s Army Program Division in MITRE National Security is seeking a Project Leader to oversee the Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC) project. Qualified candidates will have a strong background in Satellite Communications, Signals Intelligence, and Software Development. This project falls in the Army Multi-Domain ISR Operations and Systems (N212) department whose mission is to design, deliver and sustain leading edge capabilities focused on intelligence systems, sensors and non-kinetics effects to ensure Army soldiers are equipped with the technology and actionable battlefield intelligence to enable dominance.
This position requires regular on-site support with the Sponsor in Huntsville, AL with moderate CONUS and OCONUS travel to support Sponsor meetings and experimentation events.
The selected candidate will provide critical project leadership across all aspects of the project and directly interface with Army’s Space and Missile Defense Technical Center, associated external government stakeholders & teammates, and direct project engineering teams. Primary focus areas include understanding operational and technical requirements and leading a technical team in the development of advanced technology prototypes and demonstrations. This Project Leader will also serve as a technical advisor to the Sponsor and support transitions of prototypes to Program Offices.
This position requires a self-starter, you will be working in a dynamic team environment, on non-routine tasks requiring novel approaches, with limited structure and supervision. The ideal candidate is a creative problem-solver who can understand and interpret Sponsor needs with the ability to think strategically and adapt to changing circumstances.
Roles & Responsibilities:
+ Build and maintain relationships with senior-level Sponsors within SMDC and stakeholder organizations.
+ Engage with users and government sponsors to define the problem space and vision to determine capabilities, priorities, road maps, transformation plans and next steps.
+ Define and lead fast-paced, high impact work in the areas of systems engineering, prototype development, independent test and evaluation, and integration of existing commercial and government capabilities.
+ Cultivate a collaborative project team environment and a robust network of MITRE reach back in support of objectives.
+ Manage project financials and execute MITRE’s business processes in support of the project.
+ Perform on-going work shaping to ensure MITRE continues to support high-impact challenges.
+ Enable the sponsor’s mission through the delivery of concise, impactful technical deliverables, briefings, reports, and Executive level recommendations to senior sponsors.
+ Collaborate internally with MITRE Project Leads, Department Manager, and Chief Engineer
+ Through deep understanding of the Sponsor’s mission, provide thought leadership and clear, timely, actionable recommendations in multiple areas.
Basic Qualifications:
+ Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s Degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years experience; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience in one of the following disciplines: Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cyber.
+ Possess and maintain an active DoD Top Secret security clearance.
+ Knowledge of Department of Defense Space Warfighting and Cyber domains.
+ Awareness of current MITRE DoD & Services Cross-Cutting priorities and strategies, such as Space Warfighting, Joint Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations, and Counter C5ISRT.
+ Experience with Test & Evaluation.
+ Thorough knowledge and strong background in Radio Frequency (RF).
+ Task, Project or Outcome lead experience within a complex task or project team.
+ This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site, but expectations may require higher percentage of time to meet Sponsor and project needs.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills.
+ This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Army doctrine, systems, and policy awareness.
+ Possess and maintain a DoD Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
+ Significant experience with end-to-end system lifecycle development, design, testing, integration, and deployment of operational systems.
+ Able to brief and tactfully engage with senior customers/sponsors (e.g. government personnel, vendor senior staff).
+ Awareness of emerging Satellite Communications related standards, doctrine, and policies.
+ Familiarity with and experience with MITRE business and personnel management tools (Clarity, Workday, etc).

Salary compensation range and midpoint:
$142,000 - $177,500 - $213,000 Annual
