MITRE’s N934 Space Intelligence Systems Department integrates technology and domain expertise to deliver solutions across our sponsor organization that develops, deploys, and operates spaceborne capabilities. We help ensure overhead users get the right data at the right place and time to deliver the mission.
We’re seeking an experienced Project Leader (PL) to take charge of the project supporting our National Space Program (NSP) sponsor’s Systems Engineering Directorate (SED). SED leads the end-to-end integration of space, ground, operations, launch, and technology insertion activities across the NSP sponsor organization. MITRE supports SED in analysis of critical system engineering best practices, particularly with regard to new methods, tools, and standards; identifies and evaluates primary capabilities, opportunities and challenges; provides enterprise analysis expertise, and aides development of future enterprise architectural solutions.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Serves as lead MITRE interface with SED leaders and managers, accountable for overall direction, technical quality, resource planning, internal and external coordination, execution, and outcomes of MITRE’s SED workBuilds the project team, collaborating with MITRE’s NSP leadership team and Innovation Center leaders to identify and assemble the right talent for the projectDevelops detailed knowledge and insight of the sponsor’s organization, mission, strategic direction and challenges; works with NSP leadership to identify the priorities and objectives of SED and helps shape MITRE’s NSP strategyOversees and guides activities of individual contributors on the projectServes as an individual contributor residing in SED spaces, providing technical and domain expertise to achieve project outcomesAccountable as the day‐to‐day interface to the sponsor, developing trusted partner relationships with SED seniors and informing MITRE NSP leadership of significant developmentsWorks closely and regularly with SED to ensure most effective use of MITRE FFRDC resources, advising the government when MITRE FFRDC-appropriate work is approaching completion, developing transition plans (if appropriate) of completed MITRE work, proactively keeping the government informed on staffing and budget delivery, and working with the government on applying MITRE resources against their top challenges, to include changing the project skill mix, as necessaryEnsures quality, schedule, and delivery of SED MITRE products, to include appropriate level of peer reviewBasic Qualifications:
Active TS/SCITypically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experienceBachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or technical equivalentDemonstrated ability to effectively lead and participate in cross functional teams, build relationships and reach back into corporate expertise, and operate at high level of self-sufficiencyExcellent written and oral communications skills including presentation and facilitation; ability to succinctly provide courses of action, technical recommendations and products tailored to the sponsor’s mission, senior leader priorities and operating environmentsAbility to work on-site with the sponsor in their secure Chantilly VA government facility as well as secure MITRE facilitiesThis position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-sitePreferred Qualifications:
