Reporting to the Construction Superintendent, the Field Project Manager will serve as a supporting resource for project construction activities during engineering, construction and commissioning functions. This role will support the project manager by coordinating planning and execution activities for various planned projects.
• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
• Maintain, implement and demonstrate Teck’s commitment to health, safety, environmental and community as a core value
• Support the implementation of the Teck Projects Development Framework in conjunction with Red Dog Operations
• Support and coordinate the phased project development process or Red Dog Mine projects
• Review and monitor construction execution plans for effective management of projects performed by external service providers
• Develop construction scopes of work of increasing complexity as requested by Plant and other department managers
• Develop a positive working relationship, liaise and work closely with the client’s Operational stakeholders, client functional teams, project team and operational readiness team to ensure that the PMP deliverables are met
• Support ensuring that project decisions are defined and coordinated with operations and construction contractors
• Transfer learning from project implementation into the improvement of company policies and procedures
• Research materials and executes assignments under minimal supervision and direction
• Attend, prepare and issue minutes of meetings
• Perform project related document control for all phases of the projects
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Minimum fifteen (15) years of experience in arctic construction with owners or contractors’ side of projects. Minimum six (6) years mining experience
• Project experience coordinating with mine, mill and port operations groups including generators, electrical power and communications systems, motors, fire and control systems, modular construction, instrumentation and logic controls
• Alaska state certified Electrical Journeyperson and boiler class III operator
• Recognized as a leader in the fields of site brownfield project management & operational readiness
• Proven ability to lead an initiative / project from an idea through scoping, approval and then execution
• Self-motivated, results driven, enthusiastic, engaging individual with a desire help clients improve their operations
• Demonstrate ability to coach and mentor staff’s development in the field of project management & operations readiness, commissioning startup and ramp up of heavy industrial plants and processes
• Conversant with all leading project management & operations readiness philosophies
• Effective communicator at all levels of the organization
• Strong skills in GenCid procurement and maintenance software use
• Able to work as project leader, individual or as a team member with strong customer/client focus
• Strong safety focus
• Lead small teams and multiple projects / initiatives in an exploration and mining operations
• Ability to work onsite unsupervised
• Ability to travel to a range of sites
• Proven experience in an operational environment
• Cross functional exposure and strong experience in a range of client organization roles and responsibilities (i.e. operations, maintenance, finance, supply, mining, human resources etc.) their interfaces and interdependencies
• Project management experience, Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, Planning and organizational skills
• Problem solving abilities
• Excellent organizational and planning skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
• Expert in Document control and red-lining process
• Able to read, review, markup and interpret electrical, instrumentation and vendor drawings.
• Experience of facilities/process engineering and commissioning methods sufficient to enable input from an operations perspective and informed decision making to ensure quality control of contractor technical work and realization of opportunities for technical and business improvement
• Knowledge of industry standards
• MSHA qualified for metal and non-metal operations
• Able to supervise and obtain site confined space entry approval following training
