The Department of Executive Dean For Research is currently seeking a full time Project Manager, Research Support to work in Miami. The Project Manager, Research Support coordinates and leads efforts in a variety of research activities that are complex and wide in scope. Moreover, the Project Manager, Research Support operates with the goal of ensuring that the collection of data and administration of studies are performed efficiently and in compliance with applicable guidelines.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Aids in the evaluation of problems with workflow, organization, and planning and develops appropriate analytical approaches.

Maintains multiple protocol books and chronicles manuscript preparation.

Performs analyses of computerized datasets using standard packages to import, update, and manipulate datasets.

Presents studies’ results at professional scientific meetings and conferences.

Writes manuscripts and journal articles for peer-reviewed medical journals.

Ensures that research program objectives are communicated, met, and results are documented.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions

The Project Manager, Research Support reports directly to the Director of Space Planning within the Office of the Executive Dean for Research. This role provides administrative and logistical support including meeting arrangement, progress tracking, and documentation. to oversee and coordinate research space projects within our organization. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong background in managing complex research space initiatives, coordinating interdisciplinary teams, and ensuring timely project delivery. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a deep understanding of research environments, and a proven track record of successful project management.

Responsible for carrying out tasks in accordance with all strategic initiatives and objectives to fulfill the mission and vision of the University of Miami and the Executive Dean for Research. Projects will be defined by the EDR Director of Space Planning. Completes routine walkthroughs ensuring MSOM research space occupancy, equipment and signage are accurate. Support the EDR Director of Research Space Planning in updating floor plans of academic spaces. Maintains MSOM Research space floor plans and space management inventory. Generate reports for space metrics and Gantt charts for projects. Update annual Hurricane Preparedness Plan for Office of the EDR. Submits, expedites, and tracks capital equipment orders related to specific research space projects. Coordinates research lab/office relocations as assigned.   Submit, track and coordinate work orders with Facilities associated with planned space assignments. Manage and coordinate agendas, meetings, and workflows for all project meetings and communications related to EDR Space/Facilities/ Equipment committees including tracking and follow up of action items. Determines system improvements and escalates appropriate. Participates in the completion of research space capital renovation projects as assigned. Tracks Central Freezer Facility requests and maintains database of current inventory. Assist the EDR Director of Space in developing and maintaining Guidelines/SOPs related to the Central Freezer Facility and implementing changes as deemed necessary. Trains and mentors project coordinators/students and oversees their work. Support the EDR Director of Research Space Planning in oversight of MSOM laboratory and office spaces per the guidelines established by the Research Space Committee. Assist with the EDR Annual Capital Budget process to collect requests and prepare for leadership review.

Department Specific Qualifications                                                                                     

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

Certification in relevant specialty or field

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in an academic or research environment

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Knowledge of business and management principles.

Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

Intermediary experience in floor plan drawing software such as Bluebeam or Autodesk is preferred. 

Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.

Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.

Ability to lead, motivate, develop and train others.

Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

Well-versed in Microsoft Office products: SharePoint (administration experience preferred), MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Adobe Acrobat.

Proficiency in using Project Management software preferred (i.e. Smartsheet, Microsoft Project).
