Position Summary
The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) aims to improve residents' quality of life through bettering public spaces and infrastructure, and through providing excellent public services. The Project Manager - Strategy and Technology for the Dept. of Public Works is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day demands of the Community Powered Infrastructure Program (CPI), coordinating among all divisions of DPW, public safety, contracted vendors, and interested community partners to see art in the right-of-way and tactical urbanism projects through from awareness/education about the program to inception, installation and project completion. Position will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships between DPW and other organizations, including, but not limited to: businesses, neighborhood organizations, educational institutions, nonprofits, and social/fraternal organizations.
Position Responsibilities
+ Develops, implements, maintains, and continuously refines an effective community partnership effort to promote the CPI program and other DPW policies as needed.
+ Assist with the development and implementation of educational materials and opportunities for the CPI program.
+ Assist with general management of the CPI cost-share program including reviewing applications, coordinating with the finance team on proposed costs, and general communication tasks as needed.
+ General project management for CPI projects, including maintenance of the CPI Lending Library, guiding community partners through the application process, assisting with idea development, access to materials, general cost estimates for projects, identifying potential funding opportunities, and successfully getting projects installed, tested, and completed.
+ Effectively communicate across divisions of DPW and City-County enterprise to ensure projects will be designed in a manner that will test the hypotheses of the community partner, not disrupt other pertinent DPW services (i.e., solid waste pick-up, capital project construction, operations maintenance), and will be safe for all pedestrian, cyclist, and vehicular traffic.
+ Represent DPW at various neighborhood and community events to educate residents on CPI, workshop project ideas, etc.
+ Coordinate with DPW communications team on traditional and social media opportunities to promote CPI projects, gain additional awareness of the program, and garner increased interest in participating in the program.
+ Assist with other Policy & Planning initiatives as needed – work to include, but not be limited to, project research, data analysis, participation in public procurement efforts, new technologies research and beta testing, etc.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a related field with two (2) years’ experience in in a related field such as public policy, infrastructure, or technology. Any combination of education and experience in related fields equal to six (6) years is acceptable. Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to use spreadsheets, word processors, and other software solutions. Ability to occasionally travel off-site to community meetings.
Preferred Job Requirements and Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree in public relations, marketing, communications, political science or other related area of study (OR) 10 years of relevant work experience is preferred. An ideal candidate would have experience with contract management and public outreach, project management, and/or experience working with capital improvement programs .
