We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Project Controller to lead the daily accounting operations of our construction company. This role requires a strong understanding of construction accounting, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both office and field teams. The ideal candidate is proactive, process-driven, and capable of balancing hands-on work with strategic financial oversight
Responsibilities:
Provide direct support to the Financial Controller in all areas of financial management, strategic planning, and reporting. Ensure timely and accurate processing of financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger entries. Oversee the full-cycle accounting process, including month-end and year-end close, journal entries, and reconciliation of all bank, credit card, and loan accounts. Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting processes to ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and construction industry standards. Prepare monthly financial reports, job cost tracking, WIP schedules, and variance analyses to support project- and company-level decision-making. Ensure accurate contract setup and compliance, including billings, change orders, retention tracking, lien releases, certified payroll, and insurance requirements. Assist in the development of annual budgets, financial forecasts, and support business strategy initiatives. Track job costs, and assist in preparing accurate WIP (Work-In-Progress) schedules and project-level financial reports. Oversee compliance with construction-specific regulatory requirements such as state and local tax filings, prevailing wage laws, union/non-union payroll, and lien laws. Participate in financial system upgrades and workflow automation projects to drive efficiency and accuracy. Support insurance and risk management activities, including tracking of certificates of insurance (COIs) and subcontractor compliance documentation.The successful candidate will have:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or 10+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the construction industry. Strong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, and construction billing practices. Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Construction Edition), Microsoft Excel, and payroll platforms. Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to travel to other office sites/jobs as needed.Why Bunney’s?
