Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to manage individual medium to large scale fixed asset projects associated with the Southern Company Gas Project Management Organization (PMO). This position will be responsible for managing the initiation, planning, execution and closing of projects involved with natural gas transmission and distribution pipeline and associated facility construction. In addition, this position, in partnership with the Project Controls department, will be responsible for managing, controlling and reporting on the capital expenditures associated with the work. The position will lead cross functional teams requiring significant coordination with internal and external stakeholders such as Project Controls, Engineering, Construction, Land, Environmental, Operations, System Planning, Corrosion and associated contractors. This position applies PMO strategies, protocols and techniques for managing and executing projects and utilizes established project management principles under the Company’s Asset Development Process (ADP).
Responsibilities
Track projects from concept to completion Hold project team meetings on a regular basis including tracking of action items Monitor project team members and their activities Ensure qualified contractors are identified and contracted as needed Lead or participate in project bidding and contract negotiation activities Ensure scope change is managed according to the Change Management process Ensure equipment, materials, and services are acquired for project as needed Ensure contractor invoices and payments are reviewed and compliant per contract Ensure monthly financials and reports are prepared including updated forecasts andvariance explanations Support development of annual budgets for assigned projects Lead projects through the Asset Development Process when applicable including Stage Gate Reviews Establish and maintain project schedules utilizing Scheduler or other resource Lead identification and mitigation of project risks Ensure detailed project records are organized and maintained through the life of the project Champion use of Continuous Improvement, Lessons Learned, and Best Practices principles

BA/BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical), or other relevant work experiencePreferred:
MBA, Project Management Professional (PMI), Professional Engineer (PE)
Related Work Experience:
Required:
5+ years’ experience working in the natural gas transmission, distribution or related energy field 3+ years leading project planning and execution Contractor managementPreferred:
Project Management experience including leading project team and stakeholder status meetings Experience managing large transmission pipeline projectsApplicant may possess a combination of equivalent education and work experience.
Specific Skills & Knowledge:
Required:
Strong engineering and construction knowledge. Prefer knowledge of natural gas transmission systems, gas engineering principles and theories, and DOT pipeline safety regulations MS Office - intermediate proficiency, especially with Excel, Word and PowerPoint Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects Ability to use project management tools and methods (e.g., earned value analysis, critical path scheduling, project administration, establishing project teams) Ability to communicate with all levels in the organization Ability to influence and persuade in decision making Experience preparing project cost estimates, forecasts and developing project schedules, preferably in natural gas transmission and/or distribution Experience developing, initiating, and managing contracts and bid solicitations
