Position Summary:
The Trottier Space Institute (TSI) is looking for a Project Manager to join our dynamic team and carry out a wide variety of duties related to the management of the Institute and assist in development of new research initiatives. The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing TSI elements including budget oversight, resource allocation, and facility management. They will play a crucial role in supporting strategic initiatives and grant proposals. They will serve as a key point of contact for vendors and external partners and will liaise daily with the Director and other TSI staff. Additionally, the Project Manager will assist TSI faculty with development of new research projects, preparation for grant proposals and liaise with University grant offices.
Primary Responsibilities:
Oversee TSI budgets and ensure planning and tracking of expenses and annual reporting in consultation with the Director.
Assist Director in development and maintaining of Institute policies and activities.
Develop, implement, and oversee new research project plans and monitor progress toward desired outcomes. Establish project schedules, ensure conformance to plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
Assist with research project grant proposal development, writing and submission.
Communicate and collaborate with stakeholders/authorities at the University, and at funding agency levels and produce project reports, documents, and updates as needed in the development phase.
Maintain vendor relationships and direct procurement needed for project completion.
Other Qualifying Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree: Science (Physics, Astronomy), Engineering or a related field is preferred.
Experience in a research or academic environment.
Proven ability to manage special projects, including planning, execution, and evaluation, ensuring successful completion within scope and time.
Excellent analytical, and problem-solving and negotiation skills.
Proven experience in budget forecasting, managing funds, analysis.
Ability to train and coach staff and students with a view to accomplishing joint initiatives.
Professional certification as project manager and/or engineer is desirable. PMI certification such as CAPM or PMP, is considered an asset.
Advanced proficiency working in a Microsoft tools environment, including spreadsheets. Advanced excel skills required.
Knowledge of Linux environment and Python programming is an asset.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and French.
Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 4 on a scale of 0-4.
This is a 1-year contract.
