Project Manager I
University of Maine System
The University of Maine System is seeking qualified applicants to fill two Project Manager I positions for its Capital Planning and Project Management team. One position will be located on the University of Maine Orono campus, and one position will be located on the University of Southern Maine Portland campus.
These full-time, regular Project Manager I positions are critical in supporting construction administration within Facilities Management. They require significant expertise in the construction field and involve effective communication and interactions with campus and Facilities stakeholders. The Project Managers must be able to work independently, make decisions with university-wide impact, and assume significant responsibility. They are responsible for completing assigned University construction, renovation, remodeling, repair, and other projects related to the University of Maine System’s operations and programmatic needs, ensuring a safe, modern, efficient, and effective environment for our students, employees, and the public. The Capital Planning and Project Management department is responsible for supporting a five-year capital plan exceeding $1 billion.

Salary: The normal hiring range is $75,000 to $90,000, and is commensurate with training, education, and experience and will take into consideration the salary of current UMS employees for transfer/promotion.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with evenings and weekends as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Required:
+ Knowledge and skills in preparing plans, specifications, purchase requisitions, bids, quotes, record keeping, and payment in accordance with standard construction practices.
+ Knowledge of building codes and standards such as Building Officials and Code Administrators (BOCA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), National Electric Code (NEC), and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
+ Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ Adequate computer skills to effectively use Facilities Management data and communication systems.
+ Ability to reach, kneel, stand, walk up and down stairs, and climb ladders to heights of 20 feet.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
+ Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of formal appropriate education and significant leadership and management experience in the construction industry/field.
+ Five years of experience in construction project management.
+ Experience in building renovation, alteration, and new building construction.
+ Demonstrated ability to successfully organize and manage multiple priorities, activities, and projects simultaneously.
+ Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to all University locations.
Preferred:
+ Experience working in a higher education setting with an emphasis on working with committees and constituencies.
+ CAD experience.
