BACKGROUND TO PROJECT
World Vision Ghana’s “Water for Life project” is part of the Resilience Against Climate Change (REACH) project of the EU Ghana Agriculture Program (MOAP-NW and Infrastructure projects) being implemented in the North-West Savannah region of Ghana. The REACH project is implemented by the German Development Corporation (GIZ) through its “Market Oriented Value Chains for Jobs and Growth in the ECOWAS Region (MOVE)” project. With an inherent goal to enhance community resilience to the adverse impacts of climate change, in collaboration with key partners such as the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) and the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority (LUSPA), along with valuable inputs from development partners.
As a partner to GIZ on the REACH project, World Vision Ghana is implementing the Water for Life project to ensure that communities (households and institutions) have sustained access to safe water for multiple uses including water supply for local agricultural needs and for consumption. The project will establish water committees, ensuring that local stakeholders are equipped with the necessary skills and resources to sustain the water systems over time.
Further, the project will facilitate trees & forest restoration (FMNR/Agroforestry) interventions in 15 communities, and work extensively on various community fire management practices with relevant decentralised agencies in 18 communities targeting 36,000 direct and 90,000 indirect participants to improve soil health, integrated pest management through Climate smart agriculture in Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, North Gonja and Mamprugu Moadgduri districts.
PURPOSE OF POSITION
The role will coordinate the relevant processes to ensure that Water for Life Project is delivered on time and produce the desired results. The project manager will be the go-to person for analysing project status and, when necessary, revise the scope, schedule, or budget to ensure that project requirements can be met. In addition, this individual will help establish and maintain relationships with GIZ, District Assemblies and MoFA providing day-to-day contact on project status.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIESProject Planning and Implementation
Provide technical leadership to Water for Life Project in planning implementation, monitoring and evaluating of project interventionsReview and regularly monitor project budgets in line with project plans as required by GIZ.Ensure the timely preparation and submission of procurement documents, financial reports and disbursement requestsWork closely with key project team and partners to complete 35 activities in 27 communities which includes:7 Solar-powered mechanized system plus water management committees15 FMNR/Agroforestry interventions7 Community fire management interventionsConduct 2 Climate smart agriculture trainingsConduct 2 Composting trainings and establish composting pitsOrganise 2 Integrated Pest Management trainingsSolicit for technical advice on WASH, food Security, environmental risks, biodiversity, climate change etc.Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting, Learning and Knowledge Management
Use innovative approaches to monitor and evaluate performance, effectiveness/impacts of proposed interventionsDocument case studies in programming that clearly demonstrate both social transformation and sustainable development outcomes of the interventions.Conduct monitoring visits to project activities to assess progress against targets and to provide coaching and direction to activities in areas where improvements are needed.Ensure the documentation of lessons learned, best practices success stories and project impacts for sharing at internal and external knowledge sharing forumsPrepare and submit timely and accurate reports that meet donor requirements.Ensure effective project reporting, communication and knowledge management on Water for Life Project in alignment with GIZ requirementsIdentify emerging project risks and respond to the risk appropriatellyPartnering, Networking, External Engagements and Communication

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Rural Development, Development Studies, Project Management, Social sciences, international development or related field (Master’s degree preferred)
2. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a similar role. Minimum of 3. 3 years’ experience in managing WASH and Economic (livelihood) development interventions.
4.Experience in working with private and public donors including foundations and corporates
5.Working experience with Institutions involved in sustainable development/ community empowerment/ natural resource management(preferred)
6.Ability to transfer knowledge and skills formally and informally to diverse audiences; desire and ability to mentor staff
7. Proficient in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, etc
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
1. Effective in written and verbal communication in English and, preferably, French
2.Must be fluent in the English language Demonstrated strengths in relationship management
3.Ability to function effectively as part of a team
4.Able to work with a wide range of stakeholders including community-based organizations, local NGOs, local government and officials, donors, and colleagues
