We are seeking a highly motivated Project Technical Lead to join our established practice in the West. Stantec’s major water infrastructure practice pursues and executes flood risk reduction, water supply, hydropower, mining, and inland navigation projects of varying size and complexity across North America and throughout the world. This is a senior-level position that will use their industry knowledge, client relationships, and technical expertise to win opportunities that grow our business and lead delivery of technically complex projects from planning to construction. The successful candidate will assist in setting the vision and strategic direction of our major water infrastructure practice in California while being connected to Stantec’s experts around the world. This position is for our Sacramento, CA office location.
The Project Technical Lead role involves leading the execution of technically complex water infrastructure projects and leading project pursuits with new and existing clients. Protect the health and safety of Stantec employees, clients, and the public by following company health, safety, and security guidelines and policies.
Provide leadership, management, and delivery oversight for major water infrastructure planning, design, and construction projects, with a focus on dam and levee projects in California.
Prepare engineering services scopes of work, cost and project estimates, job budgets, and schedules for dams and levees projects.
Lead meetings and represent Stantec during in-person client and regulatory agency meetings and interactions. Balance the interests of both the client and Stantec through each project.
Contribute to business strategy and resource development planning for dams and levees in the West.
Manage and mentor engineering and scientist staff as a direct manager and on a project basis.
Grow internal and external networks to further enhance Stantec reputation and identify additional talent to join our team.
Maintain and enhance our reputation with clients, regulatory agencies, and industry professionals as an outstanding service provider.
Leadership and involvement in professional societies, including preparation and presentation of papers at professional society conferences and seminars.
Ability and willingness to travel as needed for business development, project, and recruitment needs.
Lead by example with active support of internal policies and practices, including health & safety, risk management, project management, and quality management.
Promote collaboration and teamwork across business lines and geographies.

Passion for dam and levee related projects.
Strong leadership, team building, and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead complex dam and levee infrastructure projects with an emphasis on technical and project delivery excellence.
Familiarity with state and federal dam and levee guidance and regulations, such as DSOD dam safety protocols, USACE design standards (Engineering Manuals), US Bureau of Reclamation manuals, FERC guidelines, etc.
Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation with attention to detail.
Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
Ability to lead project teams, engage in creative and critical thought, and effectively communicate ideas, design issues, and solutions to others.
Strong organizational, technical, verbal, and written communication skills with ability to conduct effective client and agency presentations and written technical report preparation in English, as well as effective skills working in diverse team environments with staff (local and remote), clients, and stakeholders.
Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Project). Understanding of dam and levee practice-specific numerical modeling computer programs.
Education and Experience
Minimum Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering with at least 10 years of professional experience in complex dam and levee projects, with a Geotechnical Engineering focus preferred.
Professional engineer license required. Existing California PE or ability to obtain within one year of hire required, with ability to obtain reciprocity in multiple states.
