Project Test Engineer

Job Description:

Several positions of Project Test Engineer for Flight Hardware Equipment are now open in Airbus CRISA (Airbus Defense & Space) in Tres Cantos (Madrid area) for different Space business: Launchers, Earth Exploration (Copernicus), Space Exploration (Artemis), Commercial (Telecommunications Satellites). Functionally, the Candidate is part of the Project, with the main mission of prepare and perform the qualification of the design of electronic units using development and qualification models as EBB/EM/EQMs, and also the acceptance of the flight deliverables (FMs) to achieve the unit delivery in accordance with project schedule, cost and quality requirements. In a day-to-day basis, she/he will report to the Test Manager.

Within each project, the Test Manager is the Responsible of the Validation of the design acting as a key role of the Project Team. The Candidate will be part of the Test Manager Extended Team jointly with other test engineers and test technicians. During the whole project the Test team will work very closely to the Technical Manager, together with the Project Manager, Product Assurance Manager, the Industrial Manager and the EEE/PCB manager.

The Test Engineer’s tasks comprise the complete development of an electronic equipment: from the analysis of the requirements in the Negotiation Phase to the acceptance campaign of the flight deliverables, once successfully pass the qualification of the unit.

For this purpose, the Candidate will be part of a team of test engineers and test technicians in charge of the validation of the Qualification of the Qualification Model and the acceptance of the Flight Units, aligned with Project and Team objectives.

Task and accountabilities:

The successful applicant will be in charge of the following tasks:

Assist to the Test Manager in the technical discussions with the customer during the Negotiation Phase, prior to formal kick-off of the project up to the in flight operations of the Space System.Assist to the Test Manager in the requirement assessment and in the risk identification.Collaboration in the requirement assessment to define the EGSE (Electrical Ground Support Equipment) architecture. Technical supervision of the EGSE development and participation in the EGSE validation test campaign.Support to the Technical Manager for technical issues resolution, in strong collaboration with experts as necessary under quality and programmatic rules.Preparation of the Validation documentation: Verification Control Document, Test Plan, detailed Test Procedures (Electrical & Functional, Environmental, EMC,…) to support the design and manufacturing robustness against the different stakeholder during the different project milestones (Requirement Review, Preliminary and Architecture Review, Critical Design Review, Test Readiness Review, Test Review Board…).Participation in the coding of test sequences (based on Python or other languages) maximizing the test coverage to validate the integrity of the design. Final validation of the test sequences over engineering models (EBB, EM,..) or specific test setups.Execution of integration, qualification and acceptance test campaigns for the corresponding models (EQM, QM, PFM, FMs), including development of those jigs needed for (tooling, vibration and thermal fixtures, etc).Preparation of test reports and test as-run information, including all the relevant information of the test campaignsDuring the recurrent phase of the project, the Candidate shall ensure close monitoring of any deviation, evolution and/or discrepancy of the measured parameters from the expected values.Customer oriented, being able to reach a trust relationship based on a proactive and continuous support to show confidence on the design and manufacturing.

Required skills:

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

Educated to Master degree level (or equivalent) in engineering or science discipline (Electronic specialty).At least two years of experience in the Validation and Verification of Electronic Units.English and Spanish must be Advanced-level, both written and spoken.Experience using generic laboratory instrumentation (oscilloscopes, power supplies, DMMs, etc.).Experience in SW programming (python, C++, C#,…)Technical excellence and technical challenge spirit.Digital mindset (automation of tasks, scripting, use of digital design tools and simulators).Excellent communication and reporting skills (both internal and external).Customer oriented.Strong team working and cooperation spirit to motivate the project team.Capability to propose practical solutions; constructive and innovative mindset to propose efficient solutions and committing way forward.Independent and autonomous way of working.Availability to work occasionally in the evening shift or on weekends.Ability to work under pressure.

Recommended skills are:

Experience in environmental testing (vibration, shock, thermal and thermal vacuum testing)Experience in EMC radiated and conducted testing.Experience on Power, Analog electronics or Digital design.Knowledge of space environment constraints and European space regulations (ECSS)To be familiar with Agile Methodologies.Technical knowledge of advanced test instrumentation to foster the testing automation (involving the development of scripts and data management).Happy to learn and teach others.
