Founded in 1918, CNIB is one of Canada’s oldest charities. For more than 60 years, CNIB Lake Joe has been providing exciting, safe, and accessible camp experiences for Canadians with sight loss. CNIB Lake Joe is looking for a Property Assistant to help us bring the magic of summer camp to life for ‘kids of all ages’ with sight loss, and their families!
Your Impact at CNIB
+ Assist maintenance of building and grounds (i.e., landscaping and ground maintenance, waste disposal, etc.)
+ Maintain a regular schedule of property work as determined by the supervisor, including but not limited to mowing and trimming grass; picking up debris (e.g., branches, leaves, grass clippings, etc.); raking; cleaning of building exteriors (siding, windows, railings, decks, etc.)
+ Support cleaning schedule as determined by the supervisor, including but not limited to sweeping and mopping floors; cleaning and sanitizing washrooms; emptying garbage and recycling receptacles daily
+ Conduct and document daily inspections of all buildings and grounds as well as report findings to Facility Operator and/or General Manager.
+ Set up and tear down rooms and spaces as required.
+ Perform minor repairs as assigned.
+ Provide customer service to meet established quality standards.
+ Ensure the appearance of the facility is maintained to meet the standards established by CNIB.
+ Advise supervisor of any safety concerns.
+ Attend all meetings and training as required.
Who you are:Education and Certifications
+ High school diploma an asset.
+ Valid driver G licence an asset.
+ Current police check with Vulnerable Sector Screening required for any candidates who are 18+ years old. Candidates who are under the age of 18 will have to sign a Statutory Declaration.
+ Current Standard First Aid and CPR “C” an asset.
Experience and Qualifications
+ Experience with property maintenance implements and tools (e.g., ride/push mower, leaf blower, grass trimmer, etc.) is essential.
+ Strong interpersonal skills including patience, empathy and communication.
+ Must be flexible to accommodate changing priorities.
+ Must be able to work flexible hours as scheduled by supervisor.
+ Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
+ Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.
Work Environment
+ Outdoor work required in this position. Working outdoors may include exposure to weather, sun and heat exposure. May require moderate levels of physical exertion.
+ Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
+ Knowledge and experience with cleaning products, equipment, and general building maintenance.
+ Ability to deal with confidential information and sensitive situations in a professional manner.
+ Ability to interact with clients, volunteers, vendors and staff.
+ Willingness to work flexible hours.
+ Possible exposure to dampness, mold, hazardous materials, building materials and dust.
