Prospect Researcher

University Advancement at the University of Virginia (UVA) is seeking a highly qualified candidate to join the Prospect Management, Research & Analytics team as a Prospect Researcher. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Prospect Research, the Prospect Researcher will conduct extensive research to identify prospective donors for the University. The Prospect Researcher will compile, analyze, and verify biographical and financial information, and develop comprehensive reports on potential donor prospects. The Prospect Researcher will also organize and present information in comprehensive, standardized reports which are used to evaluate prospective donors, to determine the potential for productive relationships with the University, and to develop successful cultivation and solicitation strategies. Responsibilities include compiling and distributing profiles for use by development officers, campaign leadership, and executive leadership. Prospect Researchers prioritize their own work under supervision, and supervisors offer guidance on complex or difficult issues.

Key Responsibilities:

Meet donor research needs for UVA Advancement by conducting research according to ethical standards of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA) to independently and proactively identify new prospects.Conduct market and donor research, analyze and summarize qualitative and quantitative data, prepare detailed, accurate, and confidential reports on individuals, corporations, and foundations.Maintain and serve as subject area expert on a suite of tools to accomplish the tasks above, including data mining software, foundation search engines, US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing search engines, public records search engines, and scoring tools.Assign donor ratings (including wealth, affinity, generosity) based on giving capacity, as determined by extensive financial research using various sources such as on-line databases, published references, and other documents.Enter, update, and maintain accurate and up-to-date biographical, professional, and financial information in the CRM database.Research and make recommendations on corporate and foundation prospects’ giving levels, interests, and/or likelihood.Establish a strong partnership and open communication with internal Pod team, PMR&A and external unit partners, as well as other UA Advancement colleagues.In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in prospect research and/or prospect development, or experience working in a large university.Strong analytical skills and written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work effectively as part of an integrated, diverse team.Experience with prospect research tools and resources, such as LexisNexis, iWave, Aidentified, Relationship Science, IRS 990s, and SEC filings.Experience with relationship management databases.Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Experience with Salesforce and/or Trailhead.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

This position is eligible to be worked remotely although occasional travel to our shared office space located in Charlottesville, Virginia, is required.

This is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. Anticipated Hiring Range: $53,000 - $60,000, commensurate with education and experience.
