PROTOCOL SPECIALIST
Summary You will serve as a PROTOCOL SPECIALIST in the REGIONAL PROTOCOL OFFICE AND VISITIORS BUREAU DIVISION of COMNAVREGSW SDIEGO. Responsibilities You will arrange itineraries or agenda recommendations for distinguished visitors. You will brief dignitaries' staff and support personnel on respective responsibilities for visit or event. You will perform protocol duties for distinguished visitors (DV's) (e.g., military services, congress members, senate members, distinguished civilian and foreign equivalents). Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Arranging itineraries for visiting dignitaries; 2) Planning conferences to include arranging time, place, transportation schedules, invitations, and hotel reservations; 3) Providing logistics and administrative support for all hosted social events; 4) Maintaining files on all official biographies for civilian and military dignitaries; 5) Answering questions on social etiquette and protocol. Requires carrying light objects such as files, books, and papers. Also may be required to run office errands. When assigned to visitor escort duty, employee may be required to climb aircraft carrier brow platform ladders as well as typical ship ladders. Required to be capable of walking unimpeded for a minimum of 200 yards without a break. Additionally, employee may be required to carry luggage between aircraft, vehicle, and DV quarters. Necessary to travel to other activities escorting dignitaries to ships and commands, and supervising dry runs to naval facilities with designated drivers. May be required to drive governmental or commercially rented vehicles. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee works in an adequately lighted and ventilated office environment. Work includes the normal risks and discomforts typical of offices or meeting rooms. May require occasional travel. Outdoor activities will occur in the course of preparing for and executing visits, including going aboard fleet ships and aircraft as well as traveling to other commands. Visit escort duties may be performed anywhere as required. Employee must have flexibility in time and be able to work unusual hours or long hours with short notice changes. Employee will be required to work flexible hours and extensive overtime, which can not necessarily be forecast very far in advance. This includes working on weekends and holidays as required. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: Have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. OR Have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. OR Have successfully completed an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled. OR Have a combination of experience and education that equates to one year of experience.
