Prototyping Studio Fabrication Lead

The University Libraries Studios Network consists of spaces that provide access to the tools and technologies used in creation processes for all library patrons. The Prototyping Studio Fabrication Lead should have proven abilities in product manufacturing, product design, and project leadership. They support, unifies, and maintains the Prototyping Studio’s fabrication team and provides a consistent place for the flow of both documentation and feedback for Studio fabrication students and Studio patrons. This position identifies needs in policy and change in service model to maintain an actively engaging space.
In addition, the Fabrication Lead helps patrons discover and use the Prototyping Studio’s technologies.This position will manage the studio queue, technologies, or techniques relevant to the space. The Fabrication Lead supports student worker training and acts as a lead advisor on maintaining the Studio production process. In addition, this role provides assistance to design and production of internal resources that may be needed to enhance the patron experience and usability of the Prototyping Studio. As fabricating technologies develop, this role will also guide the path for new and future capabilities in the studio.
All Studios Network positions entail interacting with all patrons of the studios, regardless of race, gender, or status, in a welcoming and friendly manner. Patrons will range from those with no experience with technology to those very familiar with the equipment and software that the Studios provide access to. The Prototyping Studio includes, but is not limited to the following equipment: 3D printers, laser cutter, CNC milling, and standard hand tools.
