Position Title: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) - EmPath Unit

Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our EmPath Unit. The EmPath Unit is dedicated to providing specialized care for individuals experiencing acute psychiatric crises. As a member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a critical role in assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with mental health disorders in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. 

Responsibilities:

Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessments of patients presenting with acute psychiatric symptoms. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, as appropriate, in accordance with state regulations and best practice guidelines. Provide crisis intervention and stabilization services for patients in acute distress. Facilitate therapeutic groups and individual counseling sessions to address patients’ psychiatric and psychosocial needs. Collaborate closely with psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and holistic care. Participate in treatment team meetings, case conferences, and clinical supervision sessions as scheduled. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, and interventions in the electronic health record (EHR) system. Demonstrate a commitment to cultural competence, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of patient care delivery.

Qualifications:

Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program. Current licensure as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in the state of Virginia. Certification as a PMHNP by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing, preferably in an acute care setting. Strong assessment, diagnostic, and therapeutic skills with a patient-centered approach. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Proficiency in utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation and patient care management.
