Unity Center for Behavioral Health is a 24-hour behavioral and mental health services center located in the greater Portland metropolitan area. We provide immediate psychiatric care and a path to stabilization and recovery for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. At Unity Center, we believe in a holistic approach to recovery that encompasses mind, body, spirit, culture, and community. Unity Center offers inpatient mental health treatment to adults and adolescents ages 9 to 17. The Psychiatric Emergency Service (PES) is an emergency department for adults aged 18 and older.

The Psychiatric Emergency Service (PES) Associate Night Medical Director holds a critical leadership position within the Department of Psychiatry at OHSU and at Unity Center for Behavioral Health, working closely with hospital administration, Medical Staff offices, and all other clinical and administrative support staff. This position shares responsibility for the Unity PES with the PES medical directors and has a special focus on nighttime operations. In addition to direct psychiatric services including assessment and treatment, the associate medical director provides leadership, recruitment, performance evaluation and supervision of other physicians and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners in the PES. The role attends to patient care and quality metrics, hospital flow and processes, and supporting learners in the PES, particularly overnight.
The duties of this position include:
This position is part-time administrative (FTE 0.25) and part-time clinical (FTE 0.75). This position will provide leadership to Psychiatric Emergency Service providers in the Unity Center for Behavioral Health as well as provide clinical services by performing emergency psychiatric evaluations and providing care to patients presenting to Unity PES. The Medical Director will be responsible for providing leadership in administrative matters, clinical program development, quality management, utilization management, staff education, trainee education, and leadership development.
Required Qualifications MD or DO with specialization in Psychiatry.Board certification in Psychiatry.Working knowledge of evidence-based treatment and best practice guidelines, case management, utilization management and peer review.
