POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY:

 

The Psychiatric Social Worker is a professional position with the primary responsibility of providing direct patient care in the form of psychotherapeutic services, group psychotherapy, family meetings, and provisional instructions for at home care. Serves as an adjunct to the primary care team and assists in providing immediate evaluation, intervention, recommendations, and referrals to patients.  They may assist the primary care provider in:

Recognition and treatment of mental disorders and psychosocial problems; Early detection of “at risk” clients, with the aim of preventing further psychological or physical deterioration; Prevention of relapse or morbidity in condition that tend to recur over time; Prevention and management of addiction to pain medicine or tranquilizers; Prevention and management of work and/or functional disability; Obtaining quality clinical outcomes with high prevalence mental disorders; Efficient and effective treatment and management of clients with chronic emotional and/or health problems; Management of clients who use medical visits to obtain needed social support; Improving the quality of primary care provider interventions without the aid of behavioral health consultation; Efficeintly moving clients into appropriate mental health specialty care when indicated.    

                                   

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

 

  Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or licensed as a Clinical Psychologist (Doctoral) required.  Minimum of 3 years of appropriate clinical experience required. Analytical ability to participate in the development of effective treatment goals, plans, guidelines, policies, procedures, and outcome measures. Clinical ability to assess inpatient needs and potential for psychological improvement. Ability to interact with physicians, social service providers, clerical and other members of the healthcare team in addition to various community agencies. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan. Must possess strong organizational and time management skills Must be culturally sensitive and have the ability to multi task and change priorities quickly Ability to function effectively in a multi-lingual patient care environment.
