PSYCHIATRIST

A Psychiatrist is responsible for evaluating and monitoring the psychiatric and medical needs of assigned patients and to communicate those needs through the interdisciplinary treatment team planning process and concurrent documentation in the medical record. The psychiatrist will adhere to evidence-based practice guidelines, professional standards, state and federal requirements.

Requirements
•Minimum includes MD or DO; state licensure; completed accredited residency in general psychiatry; residency in child/adolescent psychiatry preferred; and Board Eligibility/Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc. in both general and child/adolescent psychiatry when applicable.
•Minimum 5 years clinical experience in child/adolescent psychiatry.
•Must be at least 21 years of age.
•Experience with acute emotionally challenged children or adolescents preferred.
•Valid driver’s license, SCM certification, CPR/First Aid certification required.
•Must have the ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, flexible hours, and overtime as required.
Able and willing to travel independently 10% of the time.

Responsibilities
•Assess patient on admission by providing written and dictated admission note including a; psychiatric evaluation on all five axes, consistent with the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV); written treatment orders; admissions on-call review for all legal commitment status documents and review of routine and completion of emergency Certificates of Need (CON) as needed for care.
•Utilize templates endorsed by the KidsPeace Medical Director, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, or the Guidelines for Best Practice in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, as set forth by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Health, Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, in organizing and writing/dictating Psychiatric Evaluations, Medication Reviews, Discharge Summaries, and such other documentation that may be typically expected.
•Prescribe and monitor medications within established psychiatric practice standards and help educate staff, patients and family members on potential benefits and possible side effects.
•Provide training for staff on an ongoing basis to enhance their ability to understand the dynamics of psychiatric treatment; provides supervision of residents (trainees) assigned to his/her
•Participate in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Quality Assessment/Improvement (Q.A.I.) and Utilization Review standards.
•Ensure all services provided are documented in a timely manner.
•Develop and present case studies or topics of interest for Grand Rounds or other educational forums.
•Participate in on-call rotation, including weekdays, weekends, nights and holidays.
