JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Psychiatrist
Basic Function: Provide clinical Psychiatric services to children and adolescents in SCO Family of Services' Family Foster Care and Therapeutic Family Foster programs.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Conduct Psychiatric Evaluations relating to the mental status and reality testing of children and adolescents suspected of having a thought disorder, major affective disorder with risk for suicide. Evaluations are scheduled on a referral basis at foster care offices to assist in planning for treatment and residential referral, including the possibility of hospitalization.
2. Conduct Psychiatric Evaluations addressing mental status of birth parents. Parents may be considered questionable as to suitability for resuming guardianship of their child(ren).
3. Perform Medication Assessments of referred clients who may require and benefit from pharmacotherapy.
a. Perform at least monthly Medication reviews for those children and adolescents treated with psychotropic medication. Provide necessary documentation as required by agency policy and procedures.
4. Complete forms relating to diagnoses and adaptive behavior for special rate consideration
for those clients who may suffer from severe emotional and/or behavioral disorders.
5. Participate in treatment team conferences as indicated.
Qualifications:
- M.D. from an accredited Medical School
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry, preferably with specialization in Child and/or Adolescent Psychiatry
- At least 2 years of clinical experience with children, preferably with a foster care population.
