J.P. Morgan’s Public Finance group is looking to add an Associate to the Debt Capital Markets (DCM) team with a background in municipal finance, municipal banking, or municipal financial advisory. As an Associate on J.P. Morgan’s Public Finance DCM team you will be responsible for providing markets-based solutions for the complex financing needs of the firm’s public finance clients throughout the country. Public Finance DCM provides exposure to all aspects of the capital markets by working closely with our sales & trading, underwriting, derivatives, and banking teams for prospective client pitches and execution of live transactions.
J.P. Morgan has an industry-leading Public Finance platform serving the investment banking needs of municipalities, non-profits, and taxable/tax-exempt fixed income investors. Public Finance Issuer clients include: state & local government, transportation, energy, housing, higher education, non-profit healthcare and corporate-backed sectors. Public Finance Investor clients include: asset managers, mutual funds, money market funds, insurance companies, corporations, hedge funds, high net worth individuals, and retail investors. The municipal market is a $3.9 trillion market with over $300 billion in annual issuance and over 40,000 different issuers.
DCM is a capital market solutions group, bridging the gap between banking and sales/trading. DCM coordinates market analytics, product development/standards, private placements, tenders/exchanges, regulatory initiatives, and client risk management frameworks working across all functions in the department.
Job Responsibilities:
Develop products that meet evolving needs of issuers and investors Drive deal process and provide oversight for select bond products Evaluate issuer debt portfolios for refunding/restructuring opportunities Produce compelling analytics for clients Facilitate high quality market content directly to issuers and provide leverage to banking groups through centralization of market information Assist in RFP responses and transaction execution Develop financial models using Excel for customized bond structures Perform credit and debt capacity analyses, as required Execute a variety of bond transactions, across products, sectors and the credit spectrum Prepare presentation materials for client meetings and participate in client presentations, as requiredRequired Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
Strong work ethic, academic strength Exhibits effective teamwork and communication skills, high energy level, and a genuine passion for excellence Previous Public Finance experience at an investment bank or financial advisory firm required Experience with DBC software, bond structuring and transaction execution preferred Ability to multi-task, flexibility, assertiveness Processes new information quickly and effectively; interest in Public Finance clients & industry Strong verbal and written skills; excellent project manager; concise presenter Works well under pressure in a demanding environment, producing accurate, detailed materials while meeting tight deadlines Experience with Excel, Powerpoint, and Bloomberg Experience or background in computer science and artificial intelligence is a plus Undergraduate degree from a competitive university is required
