Public Health Intern - Community Engagement

Westat’s 11-week summer internship experiences will be hosted virtually, or on-site at our U.S. office-based locations. Our interns can expect to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

The program will begin on Monday, June 2, 2025, and end by August 15, 2025. During the summer internship program, you will be assigned a project deliverable and will present during the final week of the program. You will also attend educational programs and networking events.

A hybrid work arrangement with 1-2 days onsite at a Westat office is preferred, remote work arrangements will be considered. The pay rate for this role is $25/hr.

Job Summary:
This intern position will support a range of monitoring and evaluation activities for a large federally funded program for community-engaged research to address health disparities and social determinants of health. Data are collected from more than 38 CEAL research teams across 7 programs and include monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, applications, secondary documents, partner surveys, and interviews. This position will help enter data, review data that have been submitted for accuracy and completeness, and other tasks to support the evaluation team. The data will be quantitative (numeric) and qualitative (text). You will also have opportunities to update literature reviews, help develop communication materials (such as brief reports), participate in meetings with other evaluators and program staff, and learn best practices in data and evaluation related skills.

Job responsibilities include:

Enter data collected from research teams or secondary data sources into structured reporting systems with a high level of accuracy and timeliness. Use standard operating procedures to review the quality and completeness of monitoring and evaluation data and help research teams address any issues.  Assist in developing and implementing data collection activities such as online surveys, program reports, and interview guides. Assist evaluators with quantitative and qualitative data analysis, report development, and presentations for the project team and client. Basic Qualifications: Currently pursuing a master’s degree in public health or social/behavioral sciences.Demonstrated experience with MS Word and PowerPoint. Preferred Qualifications:Experience with Excel preferred (such as creating dropdown lists in data validation, using formulas and pivot tables).At least one course related to social science research, or statistical software such as SPSS.Other Required Qualifications:Attention to detail and organization skills; Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
