Functions as the Competent Professional Authority for determination of the WIC program eligibility and certification based on nutritional and/or health risk. Depending on assigned service, administer screening tests, counsel and educate, provide immunizations, provide care coordination, complete documentation, assist with onsite and offsite clinics, and/or provide services and consultation to support child care providers in meeting the health and safety needs of children. Experience in pediatric, maternal, reproductive health, school-based settings, or public health preferred. Special requirements: Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa. Valid driver’s license and insurable under County liability coverage. Must pass background check. Specific Duties to be performed satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. + Plan, develop and coordinate program activities within WIC, MH, CAH, and/or Immunizations. + For WIC appointments, obtain measurements of height, weight, and length, conduct blood work for hemoglobin and lead poisoning analysis, provide health and nutrition education, facilitate client goal setting, and refer to other services. + Provide health screening, developmental screening, initial health intake, tracking, education, referral, care coordination and follow-up as appropriate to program participants. + Counsel clients on the immunization schedule, side effects and contraindications; sign clients’ immunization certificates upon review. + Educate patients on wide variety of reproductive healthcare topics – contraception, sexually transmitted diseases, urinary tract infections, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) prevention, education and testing, teen sexuality and general healthcare. + For Family Planning appointments, conduct patient interviews to include vital signs – blood pressure, height, weight, pulse, LMP, and patient needs assessment. + Administer injections (i.e. immunizations, Immunoglobulin, etc.) in children and adults. + For Maternal Health appointments, complete prenatal risk assessment, screen for depression, provide care coordination, and provide health education related to pregnancy, labor/delivery and the early postpartum period. + Perform TB skin tests. + Collect clinical specimens for control of communicable diseases (i.e. pertussis testing, sputum collection, stool specimens, blood draws, etc.). + Document client assessments/referrals; enter and access client information in program databases. + Perform assessments of child care environments. + Plan, provide, and coordinate health and safety information for child care sites through teaching, one-on-one consultation, technical assistance, referrals and group training to child care providers, children, families, and/or the community. + Assist in internal and external program chart audits and the creation/implementation of related improvement plans. Participate in quality improvement and quality assurance activities. + Serve as a mandatory reporter to the Department of Human Services (DHS) + Assist in compiling accurate data for the evaluation of programs. + Stock, maintain, and disinfect lab area. Monitor and record vaccination storage temperatures. + Participate in preparedness response as directed. + Assist in development of students completing internships and practicum experiences at Johnson County Public Health. + Participate in work-related meetings, committees, training, conferences, seminars and educational opportunities as required. + Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with County policies, procedures and safety practices. + Attend work regularly at the designated place and time. Compensation Employees serve a six-month probationary period and are eligible for meritorious performance compensation increases based upon performance evaluations. Dental Care Coverage Eligible employees may elect dental care coverage the first of the month following one full month of employment. IPERS Iowa Public Employee Retirement System is a mandatory defined benefit retirement plan designed to supplement both Social Security and private savings. Non law-enforcement employees contribute 6.29% and the County contributes 9.44%. Deferred Compensation (457) A deferred compensation plan is offered that provides tax advantages and an additional means in which to save for retirement with an easy payroll deduction. Employees may select from several companies offering deferred compensation. The County will match up to $40/biweekly, and employees are vested on day 1. Discounted Bus Pass Full-time and part-time employees are eligible to purchase discounted bus passes for Iowa City Transit and Coralville Transit for commuting to/from their jobs as Johnson County employees.
