**This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City’s collective bargaining agreement with** **AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) – BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5.** **Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.**

Under supervision, performs fully functional professional nutrition assessment and counseling duties providing services to individuals, groups, and families in a public health center or clinic, and performs related duties as required
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES:**
+ Reviews nutritional history, health history and medical data of clients to evaluate the adequacy of their dietary intake, determine their risk factors and assess their nutritional and dietary needs.
+ Develops individualized nutritional care plans and counsels clients and their families on good nutrition and dietary practices.
+ Performs WIC certification, prescribing food packages, nutrition and breastfeeding education for WIC participants.
+ Provides enrollment services and in-depth nutritional counseling to high-risk clients.
+ Conducts individual and group education sessions on health promotion, infant feeding practices and healthy dietary behaviors.
+ Schedules follow-up visits with clients to monitor and encourage compliance with prescribed nutritional care plans.
+ Works on a team with other health care professionals to monitor the progress of high-risk clients and to coordinate other needed health services to clients and their families.
+ Prescribes food packages to clients enrolled in the Women, Infant and Children’s (WIC) Program based on risk assessment and nutritional deficiencies.
+ Documents nutritional services provided in the client files; records and maintains computerized client assessment and evaluation records.
+ Prepares reports on clients serviced and related work activities.
+ Consults with client’s referring physician for clarification of orders.
+ Provides guidance and direction to lower-level Public Health Nutritionist and Nutrition Technicians.
+ Conducts workshops on good nutritional practices designed to promote healthy eating habits and to help prevents or treat illnesses.
+ Supports programmatic data collection for Performance Management.

**WORK SCHEDULE:**
Monday through Friday
8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. or 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. (depending on location)
Some additional hours may be required in case of public health emergency.
**THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE**
**Qualifications:**
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:**
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Dietetics, Foods and Nutrition, or a directly related field; OR a Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Foods and Nutrition, or a directly related field, plus one (1) year of work experience in public health nutrition or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience provided that the minimum education requirement is met.
**Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications:**
At the time of employment, must be registration eligible Dietitian awaiting full Registered Dietitian (RD) credential awarded by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Proof of written approval from the Commission is required. RD credential must be completed within twelve (12) months of hire.
Must be a Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation within six months of hire
**SELECTION REQUIREMENTS**
This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.
**Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:**
+ Previous experience working with at-risk clients in a clinical environment or health care setting.
+ Previous experience with providing direct client services that include nutritional assessment, planning and counseling.
+ Previous experience developing and conducting individual and group nutrition education sessions.
+ Fluent in Spanish.
+ Previous experience working with electronic documentation systems.
