Metro Waste Services provides waste and recycling for the residents of Nashville-Davidson County and some surrounding areas. Our operation is centered around meeting our customers' needs and attaining safety and professionalism at the same time. Typical Duties + Oversees and participates in the promotion of programs, services, and events occurring within the department. + Reviews and approves release of information about the department, service, or activity. + Coordinates activities with printing firms, consultants, or other agencies. + Approves distribution of articles and other materials for release to the news media. + Conducts interviews as needed. + Determines the presentation method, format, and style. + Writes and reviews public service announcements, news and feature articles, and other informative pieces. + Proofreads and edits materials submitted for publication. + Assists with crisis situations within the department. + Briefs department leadership on significant matters. + May respond to the scenes of major incidents. + Supervises and assigns duties to employees. + Ensures employees perform work in a correct and efficient manner. + Evaluates employee performance; Counsels with and corrects employees, as needed. + Trains employees and performs administrative duties as needed. + Formulates policies and procedures involving public contact by the department's employees and submits them to management. + Maintains records and files on news releases and public service announcements. + Writes letters and memos. + Responds to questions from the public concerning published items, programs, or services as needed. + Develops and coordinates exhibits and displays. + Makes personal appearances or speeches as needed. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of public relations, journalism, or related experience.
