Duties Description The Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Public Information Specialist 1 (Digital Content) to support the agency’s digital communications strategy. This role is responsible for drafting, designing, and managing content across OCM’s digital platforms, including the website, social media channels, and email communications. Reporting to the Deputy Communications Director, the incumbent of this position will play a key role in public engagement, ensuring that all content is accessible, informative, visually compelling, and aligned with the agency’s mission.This is a visual role requiring proficiency in design, typography, and layout. Candidates should be comfortable working with a variety of digital formats and must submit a portfolio or recent examples of work demonstrating their design expertise.Duties include, but are not limited to:• Develop and manage digital content for the OCM website, social media platforms, and email communications to provide information to the public, licensees, and stakeholders.• Draft, edit, and design engaging written and visual content that aligns with the agency’s communication strategy, ensuring clarity and accessibility.• Assist with the conception, design, and production of all creative materials, including marketing materials, public information resources, presentations, website, and social media content.• Help update and maintain the OCM website, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and compliance with branding guidelines.• Support the development and execution of public information campaigns that promote cannabis education, awareness, and regulatory updates.• Monitor and manage digital engagement, responding to inquiries and public comments in coordination with the agency’s digital strategy.• Collaborate with Digital team to create multimedia content, including graphics, infographics, and short-form videos.• Track and analyze digital media performance metrics, making data-informed recommendations to enhance engagement and reach.• Perform other duties and special projects as required.
Minimum Qualifications Six years of experience* in public relations, social media, and digital communications.*Substitutions: An associates degree, bachelor’s, or master’s degree in: Communications, English, Public Relations, Social Media, Digital Communications, or a similar degree may substitute for two, four, or five years respectively.Preferred Qualifications:• Strong visual and graphic design skills, with expertise in typography, layout, and branding principles.• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, InDesign) and Canva. • Proficient in digital content creation, including graphic design, video editing, and social media management.• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complex information for diverse audiences.• A collaborative team player, skilled in working across departments to develop cohesive and visually compelling digital communications.
Additional Comments NOTE:• Travel may be required (approximately 25%), including during evening and weekends, depending on mission and assignment. • Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required, or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.
