Description We are looking for an experienced Public Relations Manager to join our team in Washington, District of Columbia. In this long-term contract role, you will play a key part in shaping our media strategies and ensuring impactful communication efforts. This position requires a proactive and collaborative individual who is passionate about media relations and advancing organizational goals.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and execute media outreach strategies to promote organizational initiatives and programs.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, reporters, and other media professionals.
• Coordinate and manage media requests, including scheduling interviews and preparing briefing materials for spokespeople.
• Draft and edit press releases, media statements, advisories, talking points, and other press materials.
• Organize and support press events, such as conferences, briefings, and rapid response efforts.
• Monitor and analyze media coverage, creating detailed reports to measure impact and refine strategies.
• Maintain and update media contact databases to ensure accuracy and relevance.
• Collaborate with the digital team to amplify earned media placements across social media and other platforms.
• Develop messaging strategies in partnership with leadership to ensure consistent and compelling narratives.
• Assist in preparing leadership for media engagements by providing talking points and context materials. Requirements • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5-7 years of experience in media relations or strategic communications, with a focus on detail-oriented work.
• Strong knowledge of media monitoring tools such as Cision or Meltwater and experience building targeted press lists.
• Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a talent for crafting compelling media narratives.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated experience in coordinating press events and managing media logistics.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when tracking media activities and compiling reports.
