POSITION SUMMARY:
The Public Relations Specialist works with the communications, marketing and retail operations teams to implement daily media and public relations outreach to position Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s as a leading national retailer inspiring everyone to enjoy, love and conserve the great outdoors.
We’re seeking an enthusiastic and responsible professional with a solid track record managing public relations efforts on behalf of an established brand, as well as cultivating and maintaining relationships with local and regional reporters and media outlets.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provide ongoing and proactive media outreach and coordination for media opportunities at 200 locations across the United States and Canada. Serve as a day-to-day contact for news media – pitching, coordinating, preparing messaging and scheduling interviews as needed.Develop relevant and engaging pitches and story angles for local and national media that translate into positive news coverage for the company and its brands, particularly for priority company announcements and large retail campaigns like Santa’s Wonderland, Gone Fishing, Spring Fishing Classic, Fall Hunting Classic and more.Provide daily support to the retail operations team – including Regional Managers, General Managers, Assistant General Managers and other team members – to assist with local media inquiries, requests, story opportunities or issues.Write and produce press materials including news releases, media alerts, fact sheets and event calendar listings; coordinate related photos and b-roll video assets needed for retail events, grand openings and campaigns.Support crisis communications and issues management. This will include identifying and escalating issues to key internal stakeholders and drafting media or customer responses, often with quick turnaround times or on tight deadlines.Support the communications team in maintaining media lists, conducting daily media monitoring, preparing media reports and other key priorities as needed.Generate positive coverage and reputational awareness for the company’s brands by fostering positive relationships with reporters, media outlets and community organizations.Monitor, analyze and report on the effectiveness of PR efforts, continuously identifying ways to improve strategies based on performance and industry trends.ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNEDEXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Degree Required: A bachelor's degree in a related field (public relations or communications) or equivalent experience.Experience: A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a PR or communications role, with experience working for a major brand preferred.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
