Public Rights of Way Officer

The Service & Team:

The Public Rights of Way (PROW) team are responsible for maintaining and modifying the Definitive Map and Statement (the legal map), creating and diverting new PROW as well as having responsibilities in relation to Open Access Land (including Common Land and Village Greens).  The PROW team are also responsible for ensuring that the PROW network is open and accessible to users.

 

The Role:

As a PRoW Officer, you will:

Be responsible for processing legal applications to modify the definitive map and changes to the network, such as diversions, extinguishments, or creations. Work with landowners, stakeholders, and volunteers to promote and enhance the PRoW network.Process DMMO applications Process PPO applicationsProcess applications for amendments to the registers of Common Land and Village Greens Deal with access rights to Open Access LandUse GIS and other tools to update and maintain the definitive map.Undertake site visits, conduct field surveys and inspections of the rights of way network, identifying and reporting any issues or improvements.

 

Working Pattern:

37 hours – flexible working is available.

 

What you’ll need to succeed:

A keen interest in the natural environment, public access, and mapping.Good communication, eye for detail and problem-solving skills.The ability to write reports and present legal arguments.The ability to work independently, as part of a team and to work at pace.Minimum degree level qualification, preferably in a relevant subject or equivalent experience. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
