There is currently one (1) vacancy for Public Works Supervisor - Fleet Compliance, however there may be a future opening for a Public Works Supervisor in Vehicle Maintenance. The eligibility list created from this recruitment process may be utilized to fill additional needs for the PW Supervisor classification within the Fleet Division. The Fleet Compliance Supervisor position presents an exciting career opportunity for a leader that is service oriented with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, critical and strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and technical expertise. Working closely with the Fleet Division Manager, and various City Departments, the candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining fleet compliance programs and Fleet Division productivity initiatives. Rapidly changing regulations will require a strategic approach to any compliance programs with organization wide buy-in. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who follows through on long-term projects while balancing daily operations; has a big picture/management perspective; is technically proficient while able to communicate in lay terms; has excellent analytical and problem -solving skills; has strong written and oral communication skills; is comfortable expressing views, ideas and approaches; is able to present effectively to both small and large groups; is able to deal tactfully and effectively with employees, public officials and the general public; is able to earn the cooperation, trust or buy in from others within the Department and City; and is someone who takes ownership and, when appropriate, makes independent decisions and keeps work moving forward. A certificate from a qualified vehicle maintenance program or certificate in management from an accredited college may be substituted for two years lead experience. ASE Master Certification in one of the following fields is highly desired: Automotive, Medium/ Heavy Truck, School Bus, Transit Bus. Education: High School graduation or equivalent is required. LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATE: + Possession of a valid Class C California State Driver's License is required for all areas of assignment. + Possession of a valid Class A or Class B California State Drivers’ License with Passenger Endorsement and Air Brake Endorsement or ability to obtain within six (6) months from the date of hire is required. Examples of Duties Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: FLEET COMPLIANCE: Manage and ensure fleet compliance with regulations from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), California Air Resources Board (CARB), Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD), and other fleet related regulatory agencies. Key responsibilities involve monitoring assigned division performance, identifying operational issues, and implementing improvements to enhance productivity. Additionally, the role encompasses strategic management of Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) credits, supporting the development of compliance programs, and preparing various environmental and sustainability reports to maintain alignment with regulatory standards. VEHICLE MAINTENANCE: Plan, organize, schedule and direct the maintenance and repair of varied fleet including gas and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, and inspect work performed; manage and monitor compliance with fleet-related inspections, certification and hazardous materials storage programs; establish preventive maintenance and work priorities; approve, order and maintain required supplies and parts; prepare and maintain records including vehicle history, contract service, inspection, warranty repair work, certification, rental use, billing, and related periodic and special reports; resolve customer service problems.
