Pump Mechanic

THIS POSITION WILL BE ASSIGNED TO THE CONROE CENTRAL WASTEWATER PLANT\n

JOB SUMMARY\n

The Pump Mechanic performs labor-intensive tasks related to maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant facilities and equipment under the supervision of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Foreman. The Pump Mechanic provides additional maintenance support to other services divisions and assists in other areas as needed. This position is required to be available to respond at any hour during an emergency when requested.\n

QUALIFICATIONS\n

Education and Experience:\n\nHigh school diploma or equivalent required.\nMinimum one year experience in the repair of water and sewer pumps of various types, motors, plumbing, small engine troubleshooting, general contracting, and pump and motor electrical preferred.\nMinimum one year experience in wastewater treatment plant maintenance preferred.\nExperience working for a municipality preferred.\n\n

Special Requirements:\n\nClass \"C\" Wastewater license is preferred.\nValid Texas Class \"B\" commercial driver's license preferred.\n\n

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: \n\nIntermediate ability to repair and diagnose problems with water pumps, sewage pumps, pump and motor electrical, floats and switches.\nAbility to understand and abide by City of Conroe and departmental policies and procedures.\nMust be able to work on-call duty and respond at any hour during an emergency when requested.\nAble to climb in and out of confined areas and have the ability to climb heights up to or greater than 100 feet.\nMust be able to lift weights of 50 pounds or up to 100 pounds with assistance.\nAbility to understand and follow written and oral instructions.\nAbility to use all tools to accomplish the job in an efficient manner.\nAbility to adapt to new technology, new methods and changing conditions.\nAbility to stand, stoop, kneel or sit for long periods of time.\nMust possess excellent manual dexterity and complete understanding of hand tools and the application of many types of fittings and repair accessories.\nMust be capable of reading, writing and speaking English.\nMust be able to communicate using a two-way radio.\nBasic knowledge of computer software and programs.\nAbility to operate light construction equipment, bucket truck, tools and various types of equipment.\nAbility to perform multiple tasks simultaneously in a team environment and with minimal supervision.\nAbility to work as many hours needed to get the work assigned completed.\nAbility to understand engineer\/supervisor drawings.\nProfessional attitude, tact and courtesy necessary to deal with internal and external customers.\nKnowledge of proper construction techniques.\nUnderstanding electrical systems.\nUnderstanding of plumbing systems.\nSkills working with small engine troubleshooting\/repair.\nSkills related to general contracting.\n\n

PHYSICAL DEMANDS\n

The work is medium and requires the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and\/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and\/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.\n
