Purchasing Manager

General Description:

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for maintaining our strategic supplier relationships and responding to changes in demand and or disruptions in the supply chain. The Purchasing Manager will play a key role in partnering with the plant and buyers to ensure that each location has the appropriate level of materials and can obtain the best value in dollars spent. The Purchasing Manager completes these functions in the support of the manufacture of dairy-related products.

Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for achieving assigned goals in the areas of purchasing, safety, quality, performance, and cost. Lead the sourcing function within the respective area, identifying the best value for the organization and developing new and secondary supply sources as necessary.   Investigate, recommend, develop, and initiate supply plans across the product supply base with input from various functions. Assist in periodic cost reviews by variance analysis and make changes when appropriate in order to ensure accurate costs. With the cooperation from various internal support functions, follow up with suppliers to address material quality issues and implement corrective action within the established procurement system.   Execute purchase orders as needed, reviewing replenishment orders and partnering with local teams to ensure the right purchases are made at the right time. Support replenishment buyers and other internal customers with subject matter expertise in systems, processes, and controls around Procurement. Manage supplier relationships to ensure that supplier expectations are clearly understood and performance against those expectations is being measured and monitored on a regular basis. Analyze product purchase history and negotiate terms and conditions or purchase contracts for all facilities to plan and forecast future requirements, including quantity price breaks. Responsible for complying with GMPs, SOPs, corporate and/or plant policies, rules, and regulations while maintaining compliance with all company policies, federal, state, and local rules and regulations, and reporting all concerns to their manager.

Essential Knowledge & Skills:

Strong working knowledge of procurement, inventory planning, and forecasting techniques within Oracle/ERP and Manufacturing environment.  Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel. Knowledge to implement and support various change management activities needed to improve the organization's effectiveness – promoting and actively seeking out opportunities in a proactive manner. Ability to apply basic to complex mathematical concepts such as adding, counting, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and knowledge forecasting, with strong analytical thinking skills to handle job tasks sufficiently. Understand and respond appropriately to basic to complex employee, vendor, and customer inquiries with the ability to define objectives and strategies to meet customer requirements and organizational goals. Read, write, and communicate using English language sufficient to perform job functions (Other preferences will be given for special language skills when there is a business need). Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with strong attention to detail and multi-tasking. Ability to trust, develop, maintain, and strengthen partnerships with others inside or outside the organization who can provide information, assistance, and support. Satisfactorily complete all company training requirements. Ability to interpret company documents and literature and UPC/code information.

Education/Experience:

A minimum of GED or High School Diploma is required, with a BA/BS degree strongly preferred. A minimum of 5 years of related experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment with an emphasis on integrated supply chain and logistics concepts is required. 5 years of proven negotiation skills preferred. APICS certified (CPIM and/or CSCP certifications) and/or equivalents preferred. Versed in Sigma Six, 5S, and lean manufacturing concepts. Procurement or Operational experience in the manufacturing and dairy industry is preferred. 

Performance Standards:

Responsible for reporting to work at scheduled times and communicating tardiness and absences with the assigned Supervisor/Manager prior to the occurrence. Responsible for reporting to work in a condition to work. Responsible for being well-groomed and dressed in business- and position-appropriate attire at all times, including ensuring compliance with GMP dress code standards. Comply with performance criteria standards of conduct, as contained in company policy, employment procedures, and responsibilities as described in the company handbook. Maintain a safe work environment at all times and immediately report and take appropriate action to correct a safety concern. Responsible for completing all assigned tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Work Schedule:

Requires morning, afternoon, and overnight availability any day of the week based on assigned shift. Requests to be scheduled off for a specific day require advance notification and approval by the Supervisor/Manager. Salaried: Generally scheduled for 40 - 45 hours; more hours may be required based on the needs of the business.

Environmental Concerns:

Normally protected from weather and temperature changes, possible exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions does exist. May be subject to exposure to ingredients used in the manufacture of food products, including allergens. May be subject to exposure to chemicals involved in the manufacture and sanitation of a food processing facility.

Physical Job Requirements:

Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility, including but not limited to office, production, and warehouse environments. Including the outside perimeter of the building. Able to wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job functions. Stand and/or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift with a meal break. Visual acuity corrected to perform job functions.

The wage range for this role considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Byrne, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $88,000 to $116,500.
