Purchasing Specialist - Raw Materials/Machine Parts

Job Overview 

This role is responsible for procuring materials, supplies, and services within established quality, quantity, and price guidelines. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to safety, compliance, and ethical business practices, while demonstrating expertise in negotiating contracts and developing reliable sources of supply.

 

Responsibilities:

Purchasing readily available items in small quantities from local retailers, wholesalers, and sales representatives. This involves identifying reputable suppliers, negotiating favorable terms, and ensuring timely delivery of goods. Preparing and processing purchase orders accurately and efficiently, ensuring all necessary information is captured, such as item descriptions, quantities, pricing, and delivery details. Maintaining and updating a preferred supplier list, which includes thoroughly vetted and reliable vendors capable of meeting the organization's quality standards and delivery requirements. Generating comprehensive reports on purchasing activities, expenditures, and supplier performance. These reports provide valuable insights for decision-making and enable effective monitoring of procurement processes. Obtaining competitive quotes from multiple suppliers for larger or more complex purchases. This involves conducting market research, evaluating proposals, and negotiating the best possible terms, including pricing, delivery schedules, and payment terms. Sourcing new suppliers when existing vendors cannot meet the organization's needs or when more cost-effective alternatives become available. This requires thorough due diligence, including evaluating supplier capabilities, quality standards, and financial stability.

 

Skills:

Purchasing/Buying/ Procurement Experience of Raw Materials and/or Machine Parts  Right Problem-solving attitude  Familiarization with manufacturing and service environment.  Good verbal communication skills.  Knowledge of billing practices and controls.  Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to effectively work with employees, supervisors, vendors and customers.  Team Player Attitude 

 

Qualifications:

Minimum of 3 years of related billing, accounting or purchasing experience JD Edwards Experience preferred Any bachelor’s degree specializing in Procurement or Supply Chain  Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred
