**What You'll Be Doing**
**Job Scope:** The Refractory (QC) Inspector is responsible for ensuring quality refractory installations in the plant’s units that use high-temperature equipment, such as Chlorinators, Finishing dryers, Ore dryers, Boilers and Oxidation reactors. The primary duty is to verify that refractory materials and installations comply with onsite and the material manufacturers' specified quality standards, thereby maintaining the safety and efficiency of operations.
**Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:**
+ Verifying the quality and consistency of refractory products from suppliers.
+ Ensure detailed inspection of brick and ceramic shapes as they are delivered, that include cutting and photos of any non-conformities. Report to site and the material supplier of any defects discovered.
+ Monitoring the installation process to ensure correct procedures are followed.
+ Verifying that the materials are installed in the correct sequence and orientation.
+ Ensuring that appropriate curing and drying processes are applied to achieve optimal performance.
+ Documenting any deviations from the installation plan and recommending corrective actions.
+ Work with the onsite area engineers to keep drawings of their equipment updated as needed to maintain accurately as-built records.
+ Collaborate with Ceramic engineer and plant engineers to discuss process-related or design failure findings to ensure optimal materials are being used.
+ Maintaining accurate logs of material certifications and batch numbers.
+ Create and update job scopes/brick specs. for the Chlorinators. Work with the contractor to make sure they understand and follow both.
+ Maintain current data sheets and supplier drawings, including material details and weights. Obtain SAP numbers for all ceramic parts/materials.
+ Documenting the entire installation process, including photographs and notes on procedures followed.
+ Track material suppliers' deliveries using open-order reports and maintain communication with their representatives to ensure orders are received and accurate.
+ Staying updated on relevant industry codes and standards.
+ Conducting regular safety audits and risk assessments on-site.
+ Collaborate with site safety personnel to Implement safety protocols to protect workers and equipment during refractory installation and maintenance.
+ Train and mentor contractors on refractory material installation.
+ Ensure the contractor’s equipment is operational and equipped with the necessary safety devices.
**Ideal Background**
**Education:** Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Industrial Engineering or related field from an accredited university is required.
**Certification:** Certification/Training for ISO 9000/Lead Auditor, Special Practices (NDE; Welding), Vendor Surveillance Management and Construction Activities Inspection Methods is preferred.
**Experience:** This position requires 15 or more years of relevant experience in Quality Management System and EPC Project Quality Assurance Management.
**Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**
+ Extensive knowledge of refractory materials and their properties.
+ Utilizing inspection tools available with onsite teams.
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
+ Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
+ Excellent communication and documentation skills.
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
+ Familiarity with relevant Industry standards and codes.
**Physical Requirements:**
+ Ability to lift and carry in excess of 25 lbs.
+ Ability to climb ladders or perform duties utilizing a safety harness while working at elevated heights.
+ Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs while carrying equipment.
+ Ability to perform work outdoors or in process units in hot or cold climates.
+ Ability to perform duties within confined spaces for extended periods of time.
+ Ability to perform duties while wearing personal protective equipment such as a fire-retardant jumpsuit, safety glasses, ear plugs and hard hat.
