UK QEHS Director

In a nutshell, you will be acting as the ‘technical spokesperson’ for Arla Foods. Developing and nurturing internal and external relationships, encouraging best practice on quality and food safety, environment and health & safety across the business. Keeping Arla Foods on the map as market leader.
About the job:
The UK QEHS team provides strategic and tactical advice across our UK supply chain. As QEHS Director you will head up an established team of 12, leading the quality, food safety and EHS agenda.
Reporting to the Global Vice President of QEHS, your responsibility will be to lead the function, known as strong partner to the business when it comes to quality and food safety, environmental and health & safety across our UK supply chain. Besides the clear strategic direction, a key part is also to ensure that your team have the right capabilities, championing QEHS initiatives in close collaboration with global peers to influence and shape culture.
How you will make an impact
Oversee, develop and implement best in class health and safety and product quality standards for E2E Supply Chain. Foster a culture of QEHS continuous improvement and collaboration throughout the UK organisation. Participate in the Production and Logistics leadership team for UK as a business partner to the Production Vice President/Logistics Vice President and provide input to the team in relation to QEHS performance and initiatives Represent the UK market within the Global QEHS leadership, taking the lead on specific global initiatives by leading cross functional and market project teams Set the strategic direction of the function, ensuring that the technical team are servicing the wider needs of the customers and the business itself. Take a commercial approach and ensure the development and maintenance of strong, value adding retailer relationships. Represent Arla through involvement with relevant industry and customer forums. Providing insight, input, and utilising any networking opportunities. Highlight and enhance awareness of all food related issues of interest such as nutrition, animal welfare, sustainability, and take a leading role in developing action plans to address as appropriate. Lead crisis situations and serious incidents, including responsibility for liaising with relevant authorities in UK as well as providing crisis management and technical support to the business.

The key to success in this position is your passion for QEHS as well as your ability to become a trusted advisor to the organisation. Likewise, you have the drive to build commitment to your own ideas and deliver leading QEHS initiatives. As a solid communicator with a holistic view of where we are going, you are able to explain QEHS matters simply, whilst also being able to immerse yourself in the detail. Ideally, you have worked on a production site and you have a solid understanding of QEHS, processing and continuous improvement techniques.

We are looking for a passionate leader with a strong holistic view and dedicated people management skills from within a Food or FMCG environment, either supplier or retailer side. In depth technical expertise complimented with a food science degree or equivalent. Strong core technical competencies around product development, legislation, quality and food safety, process development, and risk management. A clear sense of commerciality, recognising the role that our customers and consumers play, and the impact that the technical function has on those relationships. Strong communication skills to engage and inspire on a common agenda combined with interpersonal and influencing skills to inspire and interact with other departments, employees and external customers.
