Quality Assurance, Emerging Talent Intern Job ID: 11197 Business Unit: New York City Transit Location: Various, United States Regular/Temporary: Intern Department: NYC Transit Authority Date Posted: Apr 2, 2025 Description Departments: Division of Car Equipment Location: 2556 McDonald Ave., Brooklyn, NY & 130 Livingston Street, Brooklyn, NY Position Title: Quality Assurance, Emerging Talent Intern Hourly Rate $19.00 (Undergraduate) Overview of Department: Department of Subways - Division of Car Equipment (DCE) Work Car Engineering group is part of the NYC Transit Car Equipment Division. Intern will use Material Science and Mathematics to design the prototype to OEM size and functions, using knowledge of Materials and using algebra, trigonometry and physics in the fit, function and testing of the end product. This assignment benefits the MTA by significantly reducing costs and improving vacuum train performance. Responsibilities: + Assisting the CAD design of the prototype + Research, testing and analysis of various adhesives which will glue the filter material to a disposable frame + Research, testing, and analysis of readily available filter material (meeting OEM specifications), methods of sizing (laser cutting, sheer cutting) of filter material to pair with the disposable filter frame + Research, test, and analyze metals for the filter assembly based on weight, adhesion, durability, flexibility, and weldability. + Assembly methods of the components of the projects into a working and testable prototype + Fit and finish of the prototype to the exact OEM specification of the OEM assembly + Deploy prototypes in the vacuum train. Monitor filter performance, track durability, and determine replacement frequency. + Develop a manufacturing method to produce in-house 420 filter assemblies. Projects: + This filter project will be designed and manufactured in-house as separate projects utilizing Car Equipment support shops. + Design of a replaceable filter cartridge, and the separate design of a filter housing to the same specifications as the OEM filter housing. + Research and selection of various adhesives, metals and filter material to provide the same rigidity, filtration, and durability as the current OEM design. + Create a working prototype by collaborating with Car Equipment’s sheet metal shop, Work Car Engineering, management and supervision to fabricate and test the prototype filter assembly using accepted engineering practices. Required Qualifications: + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must. + The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills. + The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player. Required Education: + Matriculated in undergraduate in good standing with at least 2.5 GPA + Major(s) Preferred: Material Science, Mathematics, or related major.
