JOB SUMMARY:
The Quality Assurance Analyst I is primarily responsible for routine laboratory activities including, but not limited to, following standard operating procedures for sampling, analyzing, documenting, and reporting of chemical, physical, and microbiological analyses in a timely manner to ensure products meet quality specifications. This position will be scheduled to work during the second shift (2pm-10pm).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Builds familiarity with sensory profiles of Goose Island brands and can recognize sensory defects and deviations.
Perform yeast counts and viability analyses to inform various brewing and cellaring processes and decision points.
Conduct inspection and analysis of package integrity to established specifications.
Learns to develop the ability to advise production teams based on data interpretation and execute established reaction plans when process deviations are identified.
Manages and maintains laboratory data and records with accuracy and consistency.
Present in all production areas and collects samples from vessels and processes for analysis (raw material, in-process product, finished goods).
Performs quality testing to ensure the product specifications are being met in accordance with each phase of production.
Performs routine physical, chemical, and microbiological analysis procedures as dictated by standard operating procedures.
Learns to independently operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation.
Understands and upholds all safety policies while on-site.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Science in biology, chemistry, microbiology, or similar area, preferred.
Previous experience in a QA role in the brewing industry preferred.
Strong working knowledge of microbiology.
Knowledge of aseptic procedures, flavor analysis and good manufacturing practices required.
Maintain Quality Assurance laboratories, workspaces, and department equipment including sanitation, organization, and calibration.
Support production timelines and operations teams by performing responsibilities in a time-sensitive manner.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office.
