GENERAL PURPOSE
Responsible for leading and supervising a multi-functional team in the successful implementation of a quality program within a complex manufacturing facility. Responsible to achieve the site’s quality objectives. Holds the operation accountable to meet customer requirements and product specifications, assuring all products are delivered with the highest possible defect free quality. Manages headcount, deliverables, schedules, and costs for multiple ongoing projects and programs, ensuring that resources are appropriately allocated and that goals, objectives, timelines, and budgets are met in accordance with organizational roadmaps.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for the successful implementation and management of the site quality program to ensure product quality. Includes establishing goals and ensuring performance and accountability to those goals.
Achieves exceptional levels of customer quality and service
Implements improvements for customer response on product issues
Applies problem solving skills and executes solutions to difficult problems
Builds and develops a strong team; distributes the workload equitably.
Conceptualizes, drives, and executes solutions to the most complex problems.
Identifies and implements changes in procedures.
Identifies individual team member career development needs and resources/activities to address them.
Makes decisions in a timely manner, sometimes with incomplete information and under tight deadlines and pressure.
Establish and maintain close working relationships with all Operations support staff, key plant resources, suppliers, and many other internal cross-functional areas.
Presents work output in a clear and concise manner.
Responsible for setting engineering quality standards.
Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business/Operations Management, or related discipline; or equivalent experience. Master’s degree is preferred.
SKILLS and ABILITIES
8 - 10 years related experience with primary focus in operations and quality manufacturing-related processes.
Working knowledge of quality system processes (current examples include APQP, PPAP, and other ISO 9000).
Some experience in management preferred.
Demonstrated leadership competence as defined in HMI's Leadership Skills and Behavior Model.
Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills, including professional presentation skills.
Strong business acumen including basic knowledge in accounting, finance, quality, marketing, and operations.
Must have understanding of engineering and quality tools such as ProEngineer, PDM, ERP, Reliability, GD&T, QFD/House of Quality, DFMEA, PFMEA, DFA, Control Plans, and Statistical Process Control; and how they are utilized to improve business results.
Working knowledge of and proven ability to implement lean manufacturing / continuous improvement (HMPS) principles and practices.
Demonstrated ability to effectively use office automation, communication, software and tools currently used in the HMI office environment.
Demonstrated ability to successfully initiate and lead change initiatives in a manufacturing environment through an in depth understanding and successful application of principles of lean manufacturing.
