Quality Assurance Tech / Night (3rd) Shift

Summary

The purpose of this position is to perform various attribute reviews/measurements on products and/or processes to ensure compliance with company and customer requirements. Monitor and enforce company food safety policies and complete food safety and quality controls and procedures in a timely and accurate manner. Provides sample tracking, preparation and cataloging, as well as performing quantitative and qualitative microbiological testing.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities Performs required tests on birds and rinses sent in from the plants. Requires the use of techniques such as the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Perform daily Total Plate Counts (TPC) and accurately process daily samples brought to the laboratory for bacterial testing; accurately records and reports results. Prepares cultures for testing demonstrating accuracy in measurement and autoclaving procedures. Requires knowledge of handling various chemicals and reagents, some of which require protective gear and safety handling techniques. Performs general lab upkeep and sanitation; keeps work area free of safety hazards. Minimum Education

Associates degree in related field.

Experience Requirements

2 - 4 years experience. Good communication, computer and math skills.

Experience Preferred Must be able to work unsupervised. Must be able to learn, practice and follow food safety and USDA standards. Must be able to handle and resolve conflict. Must have good interpersonal skills. Must have good reading, writing, and math skills to write reports, document results and calculate numbers. Must be able to lift 10 lbs. Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another. May need to access files, supplies and equipment. When in a plant environment: Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces. May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity. May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db. May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility. Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company. May be exposed to dust, ammonia and noise from farms and in the garage areas.
