We are looking for a resourceful Quality Inspector that is safety and quality conscious and willing to learn and grow with the business. This is a role where you will work in a TEAM environment where safety always comes first. This position is an on-site position at our Alexandria facility.
This position is accountable for the inprocess and final inspection of tank cars and tank car components during the manufacturing, as well as incoming inspections of tank car related parts. Inspections shall assure that the intent of all engineering standards, product drawings, quality control procedures and applicable regulatory codes/standards are met. This position reports to the QC Manager or Quality Control Supervisor. The incumbent is to ensure tank cars and tank car parts are inspected per AAR, DOT/BOE, internal, and customer requirements. The incumbent is required to accurately and neatly initiate and complete inspection reports during and upon completion of inspections. The Quality Inspector is responsible to prioritize, identify, and evaluate production problem areas and follow with appropriate suggestions or solutions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs dimensional and visual weld inspection of tank cars and componentsPerforms nondestructive testing methods to detect discontinuities and accurately interpret test resultsPossesses knowledge of and performs inspection of vendor supplies tank car partsPossesses working knowledge of applicable quality control procedures, engineering standards, shop drawings and AAR/AWS regulationsProvides neat/accurate reporting and proper dissemination of inspection dataUses electronica systems to generate nonconformance reports, access procedures/engineering standards, review shop drawings, etc.Promotes quality improvement and a quality work environment with supervision and/or production employees.Participates in and actively supports Quality projects and activities as well as Responsible Care initiatives to ensure that the Company achieves its goalsSKILLS/ABILITIES
Ability to climb ladders to heights of approximately 14 feet high, bend, stoop, stretch, lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds to set up tables and attach to tank carsAbility to enter tank cars via a manway opening from 18 inches to 20 inches in diameterAbility to tolerate both heights and confined spacesHave keen visual and audio acuity to recognize various shop danger warning signals to avoid injuries and promote a safe working environmentPossess considerable stamina to perform the essential functions over a large geographical plant areaAbility and availability to work considerable overtime hours that may often be requiredMust not wear any type of personal medical device that would be affected by the exposure of working around our x-ray equipmentEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Requires a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in tank car production or manufacturing, including experience in inspection, NDT and tank car fabrication, and assembly. A potential incumbent must be familiar with all regulatory codes, i.e., ASTM, AAR, DOT, ANS, and ASME.Please note the duties listed are not set forth for purposes of limiting the assignment of work.
